Pentecostals believe very strongly that being “Slain in the Spirit” is one of the most needed divine intervention.
BUT CAN ONE FIND A BIBLICAL RELATION TO “BEING SLAIN IN THE SPIRIT”?
It all depends on what one means by biblical.
If you mean: Did people fall under God’s power in the Bible?
The answer is YES
But if you mean: In the Bible when individuals fell down, backward, did it bring God’s blessings upon them?
The answer is NO! NEVER!
In the Bible individuals fell down on their face in the presence of God, the Angel of the Lord, the Lord Jesus, and it brought blessings.
Ezekiel 3:23 …and behold the glory of the Lord stood there…and I fell on my face.
Ezekiel 9:8 …And it came to pass, while they were slaying them, and I was left, that I fell upon my face…
Ezekiel 43:2-3 … (2) And behold the Glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east, (3) And it was according to the appearance of the vision …and I fell upon my face.
Ezekiel 44:4 …And I looked, and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD: and I fell upon my face.
Luke 17:16 …And fell down (the healed leper) on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks…
They never fell through the agency of an intermediary, and it never occurred through the laying on of hands, the pointing of a finger, or through the blowing of a human mouth (even if the blower had bad breath).
In the Bible, falling backwards takes place in case of God’s judgment, or to stop the hands of God’s adversaries:
Genesis 49:17 …so that his rider shall fall backward.
1 Samuel 4:18 …And it came to pass…that he fell off the seat backward by the side of the gate..
1 Samuel 28:20 …Then Saul fell straightway all along the earth and was sore afraid..,
Isaiah 28:13 …That they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken
Jeremiah 8:12 …Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not at all ashamed. Therefore shall they fall among them that fall…they shall be cast down saith the Lord
John 18:6 …As soon then as He had said unto them, I am He, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
BUT WHY DO SO MANY CHRISTIANS FALL FOR ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING?
Because they have never been grounded spiritually, and because featherbrained churchmen have never fed their flock adequately, and have titillated many with gratifying insipidity.
1 Peter 5:2-…Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind.
And because too many Christians do not read and study the Bible on a regular basis, they rather rely on what the man at the pulpit is saying, and they are not given the Word of God that builds faith.
Romans 10:17-…So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Brothers and Sisters, beware of being wise above that which is written; beware of forming fanciful theories of your own and then trying to tailor them to the Bible.
Beware of making selections from the Bible to accommodate your taste – refusing like a spoiled child whatever you think is bitter – seizing whatever you think is sweet.
We must TAKE the Bible as it is, we must READ it all, and we must ACCEPT it all.
A child of God must live in the world, but he must not allow the social and religious fashion for the sake of gain or pleasure, for it is divine to sacrifice both on the altar of truth and duty.
For God puts the Church in the world and Satan puts the world in the Church
“It is right for the Church to be in the world; it is wrong for the world to be in the Church.
A boat in the water is good; that is what boats are for. However, water inside the boat causes it to sink.” [The World, the Flesh and the Devil, Harold Lindsell (1913-1998)]
“If you find yourself beginning to love any pleasure better than your prayers – any book better than the Bible, any house better than God’s – any table better than the Lord’s – any person better than your Saviour – a present indulgence better than the hopes of heaven, TAKE ALARM.” [Speaking to the Heart, Thomas Guthrie (1780-1864) ]
