Gloria Copeland says of the Holy Spirit, “Some teach that He is automatically received at the time of salvation. It is certainly true that if you are born again, the Holy Spirit has been with you and has worked in your life. But He has had to work from the outside and is limited in His ministry to you.
(John 14:16,17). The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus told His disciples that they knew the Holy Spirit for He was with them and would be in them. The world can receive Jesus as Savior and be born again, but only a believer (one who has already made Jesus Lord) can receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.”
Commenting on “acts 18: 16,17; 19:2 from these instances we can see that the apostles laid there hands on men who were already believers to receive the holy Spirit. These Scriptures reveal that the indwelling of the holy Spirit is not automatically received at the time of the new birth.
You receive the holy Spirit by faith just as you receive Jesus as the Lord.(Gal.3:14)”
Now what in the world do the Copelands believe gives one the new birth except the Holy Spirit. What she does is mistake a few instances of the new people groups that needed to have the apostles approval. Acts 10:40- shows us that they received the Spirit as they believed .The gentiles speak in tongues as proof of their salvation.Act 11: 17″ ..therefore God gave them the same gift as he did unto us, when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ;” What is the gift? The Holy Spirit. This kind of teaching is not only abusive but has much in common with the cults.

The Bible: The believer is born of God (God is the source of our regeneration)
I Jn 5:1 “Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.” As soon as one believes the Bible says we have God the Spirit dwelling inside.

The believer is indwelt by God when they believe (Holy Spirit)- I John 4:15, Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides In him, and he in God.”

Eph. 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,”

Eph. 4:3And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 2 Cor. 1:21-22Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God 22who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.”

I Jn 2:26-27 “These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.”

Every believer is sealed with the Holy Spirit and that same Holy Spirit is the anointing that lives in us. So every believer is “anointed” with the Holy Spirit.
Gloria Copeland goes on” Christians must be taught to believe for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The disciples in the upper room on the day of Pentecost had been taught about receiving the Holy Spirit by the Master. The entrance of God’s words gives light or understanding (Ps. 119:130).
For example, healing belonged to you the moment you were born into God’s family; but if you never get into the Word and see that divine health is yours, you will continue to be sick.”
If this were true the same faith that saves someone would instantly heal them as well. But the Copelands don’t really believe in faith but in the power of their words which will get them whatever they want. That’s why all this becomes a separate event. Heres how its done…
“Five Steps in Action form
1.Ask without fear, knowing that God said you would receive His Holy Spirit.
2.Speak no more English.
3.Come unto Jesus. Open your mouth wide and drink in the Holy Spirit, breathing in as deeply as possible. You are to know that at this moment you receive the Holy Spirit by faith. As you breathe in, you are being filled with the Spirit. “
(this is an occult technique in which the prana energy fills the air, nowhere does Scripture tell one to do this to receive the Holy Spirit ,who already lives inside all the believers. While I  believe in a continual filling as the Scripture teaches, this is not what they are describing.1 Cor.12:13 “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body– whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free– and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.” What Spirit than are they receiving if they breathe him in.)
[It needs to further be pointed out that this also is found in Oneness Pentecostalism. In J.E.Stiles booklet ” Why receive the Holy Spirit and how to receive him” on p.21 states “Now as you open your mouth, and breath in, don’t pray, don’t talk don’t say a single word, just breathe in deeply… If you will sit quietly for a time…just breathing in the breath of God, you certainly will feel a moving of the Spirit.. Just lift your voice  and speak the sounds that seem easy to make,…After you have spoken for considerable time, stop and breathe deeply again and you will get a a fresh anointing.]
4.”Raise your voice. Use your lips, tongue, and voice to speak out the praise in an unknown language as the Spirit gives you the utterance.
[Recently at John Hagee’s Church Kenneth Copeland spoke explaining how his wife got filled with the Spirit  “And the church Gloria came from, dear God. She was raised in a little church out in the country, they didn’t have a pastor half the time. Didn’t believe anything. She’d been saved and filled with the Holy Ghost 3 months before she ever heard the word new birth. She did not know what it was! “(Aug 18,1999 Hagess program on TBN) How is this possible in light of her booklet instructing others to be filled a certain way by asking specifically and breathing the Spirit it in.This shows these people are confused.
5.Allow the rivers of living water to flow from you with the greatest of freedom. You are magnifying God-extolling (praising enthusiastically) the Father God who is Love and offering up the praise of thanksgiving unto Him.
‘Now that you have received the Holy Spirit, rely on the Word that Jesus spoke, “He shall remain with you forever.”
(note: He will remain with you forever long before you did all this, if you received Christ the way the Bible teaches.
She goes on to say Jesus said the holy Spirit would be given to teach you, not just some things, but ALL the truth .
(Gods will is the Holy Spirit “the promise is for you’ , Gloria Copeland reprint 1991) Kenneth Copeland publications)
Really! Do the Copeland’s believe they have all the truth? Not even a single apostle believed this, because God used several to write the Scriptures.
John 16:13″However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
To guide means to show the way (literally or figuratively [teach]) the object would be the word which he would then guide us into, he will make us wise in the word not beyond it.
Here’s how she explains he will do it. “This great one has been instructed to lead you into all the truth, he will lead you, be quick to follow.  The problem with this is he leads us into the truth of the word. Biblically John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”The purpose was for the apostles to have a perfect recollection and the witness be written to us
John 15:26-27 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. “And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”
What the Copeland’s have done is come up with “many new revelations” outside the word which they believe the Spirit has taught them. So this “ALL the truth certainly means more than what is written to guide you. Yet Paul who had a greater revelation than all the Apostles said in 1 Cor.4:6 do not go beyond what is written that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.”
The Scripture says  2 Tim. 3:16-17 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
While the Copeland’s believe this, it is surface level because they teach beyond what is written which Paul commanded not to. So the Spirit leads one into the truth of the word, not outside it. One can only wonder what Spirit this is, since he was not received when one has a new birth but is given separately on account of ones faith, which to the Copeland’s is a “force.”

1 Cor. 15:1: “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and in which you stand By which also you are saved, if you keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless you have believedin vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scripture.” the Gospel consists of Three points according to the apostle Paul.
1) He died for our SINS 2) He was buried (proving he died). 3) He rose again taking up the same body he came in.
The Gospel concerns Gods son and his work for us to remove our sin . If it is focused on something else other than the cross and his resurrection it is not the gospel of Christ. The Son of God came as the savior (1 Jn 4:14), that he is Lord of the universe (which relates to a triune nature of God). We stand in it by trusting in his work. Salvation is a gift freely given not earned. We work from salvation not toward it. Our part is that we are commissioned to preach it and to make disciples.
2 Cor. 11:3-4 “But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted– you may well put up with it. (you will have to endure it, or you wear it beautifully, and some do).”
another Jesus – (allos) is a primary word; “else,” different (in many applications) The name is the same, its the name Jesus from the Bible but it is not the Jesus of the Bible. He is different one, with some similarities on the surface level.
A different Spirit -(heteros)-to number as opposed to some former person or thing the other of two; referring to quality: that is, one that is not of the same nature, form, class, or kind, to be different.
Another Gospel (heteros) of uncertain affinity; different: altered, strange. It is not the same one Paul preached, it has a qualitative difference.
Alterations of the Christian message have always been with us but not since the beginning of the church have they become so rampant and outrageous. Some of the cults would blush at what is now being said from Christian pulpits.
Paul warns Gal 1:6-9: “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
Another gospel; the same sort”; heteros expresses a qualitative difference and denotes “another of a different sort. “Paul speaks of “a different good(heteros), which is not another” in contrast to any other Gospel which there is none (allos, another like the one he preached),

Angels were always involved in revelation to mankind. Paul under prophetic inspiration warns the believers then and us now of receiving new understanding from a spiritual source that would alter what was first delivered to them. Today so much gets blamed on the Holy Spirit with teachers speaking impromptu from the pulpits.
To be perverted means to twist a thing around, they destroyed it by having additions to grace, distorting the nature of the person and the work of Christ.
To anathematize someone is to label them a false teacher. If someone teaches another gospel that affects who Christ is or how one relates to him , or distorts grace by subtracting or adding any work it becomes another Gospel.They are to be cut off, cast away. anathema- a thing devoted to God without hope of being redeemed, in the O T. if it was an animal it was to be slain; in the N.T. it is person or thing doomed to destruction.
According to those who are new Pentecostal leaders the church, Jesus took on the  nature of Satan on the cross, died spiritually, and went to complete the plan of redemption in hell. But he had to be born again. No longer is it a baptism in the Holy Spirit as the “2nd blessing”, but now are under an anointing for new revelations. They are changing the very message that can save a sinner by shifting the focus to another place. They also change the nature of Jesus at the cross and afterward.
Lets take a journey into the new revelation knowledge of the more famous promoters, the men of renown.
“When Jesus cried “It is finished!” He was not speaking of the plan of redemption. There were still three days and nights to go through before He went to the throne. He was referring to the Abrahamic Covenant. Jesus’ death on the cross was only the beginning of the complete work of redemption” (Kenneth Copeland, “Jesus – Our Lord of Glory”,        ( Believer’s Voice of Victory, April, 1982, p. 3).
This is a direct assault on the Gods way for salvation Christ’s physical death upon the cross. This is not debatable the Bible is absolutely clear in its teaching on this matter. Anyone who has read the NT accounts finds the phrase “it is finished” The Greek word for this term is tetelestai, which means the debt (sin) has been paid in full! To say otherwise is calling Jesus, the Scripture, and the Holy Spirit liars.
“Do you think that the punishment for our sin was to die on a cross? If that were the case, the two thieves could have paid our price. No, the punishment was to go into hell itself and to serve time in hell separated from God” (Frederick K. C. Price, Ever Increasing Faith Messenger, June 1990, p. 7).
This is what Price thinks of the sacrifice of the unblemished lamb, that if this is the case, two sinners could have obtained it. What does Peter say (2 Pt.2:1) who will bring in heresies that will destroy, even denying the Lord that bought them. They change what Christ said to the thief on the cross, instead of “Today you will be with Me in Paradise,” He should have said, “Today you will be incarcerated with Me suffering in hell.” Not too hopeful of a promise is it.
“Somewhere between the time He [Jesus] was nailed to the cross and when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane—somewhere in there—He died spiritually. Personally, I believe it was while He was in the garden.” (Frederick K. C. Price, Identification #3 ( Ever Increasing Faith Ministries, 1980) tape #FP545, side 1)
If he was separated (dying spiritually in the garden) then why would he wait until the third hour on the cross the cry out “my God my God why have you forsaken me” Price shifts the focus to some other time.One can only wonder why they don’ t want to see the glory in the crucifixion as the Apostle Paul did! To die spiritually meaning at the very least separation before he had the sins laid on him is to destroy the whole OT teaching of the blood put on the altar. To have the redemption in another place at another time destroys its very purpose. These become fables the very thing we are warned of in Scripture.
2 Tim 4:4-5 ” and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”Are you being watchful ? Or are you listening and believing what certain men are teaching. If not your work as an evangelist will be hindered and your ministries calling will suffer. that’s what Paul said , its not my opinion.

Titus 1:14 ” not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.” Even in their day there were fables circulating from those who did not yield to the truth. Its been almost 2,000 years and not much has changed.
“The righteousness of God was made to be sin. He accepted the sin nature of Satan in his own spirit. And at that moment that He did so He cried, ‘My God, My God, Why hast thou forsaken me?’ You don’t know what happened at the cross. Why do you think Moses, upon instruction of God, raised the serpent upon that pole instead of a lamb? That use to bug me. I said, ‘Why in the world would you want to put a snake up there – the sign of Satan? Why didn’t you put a lamb on that pole?” And the Lord said, “Because it was a sign of Satan that was hanging on the cross.’He (Jesus)said, “I accepted in my own spirit, spiritual death; and the light was turned out.” (Kenneth Copeland, What Happened From the Cross to the Throne? cassette tape 1990, Side B).
Ask yourself is this truth, is it written in Scripture or are they going beyond the written word for their information ? If so, Then it is a fable. Why would the Lord tell Copeland it was a sign of Satan when there is not even a hint of this in the he word! While there are numerous  problems to be answered with Copeland’s conversation with God and being communicated false doctrine. To become sin in his nature does away with the lamb of God who now becomes the lamb of Satan. The only way the cross would be in reference to Satan is that Christ overcame him on it. Col.2:14-15 makes it clear he triumphed at the cross, not in hell. But the faith teachers are saying he became defeated on the cross, that’s not the Bibles view, that’s theirs.
Col 2:15 ” Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” At the CROSS!
Gloria Copeland agrees of course with her husband “He (Jesus) paid the price for Adam’s sin. He suffered in His own body, and more important, in His own spirit. Jesus experienced the same spiritual death that entered man in the Garden of Eden.” (G. Copeland, “God’s Will For You”, Fort Worth, Texas, K. Copeland Ministries, p.5)
This means that Jesus became a sinner just like all of mankind. He was born sinless and died a sinner, how’s that for a switch.
Kenneth E. Hagin who is Copelands discipler states, “spiritual death means something more than separation from God. Spiritual death also means having Satan’s nature… Jesus tasted death–spiritual death–for every man.” K. Hagin, The Name of Jesus,  1981) p.31.
Hagin explains, “…just as receiving eternal life means that we have the nature of God in us, spiritual death means having Satan’s nature.” K. Hagin, Redeemed, Tulsa, OK, Faith Library, 1966, p.29) As Adam received Satan’s nature so did Jesus.
Eph. 5:2 makes it clear Jesus did not become a unholy sinner on the cross, but was a holy sin offering who ‘gave himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a beautiful fragrant aroma, Not a stench of sin!
Benny .Hinn, “Ladies and gentlemen, the serpent is a symbol of Satan. Jesus Christ knew the only way he would stop Satan was by becoming one in nature with him. You say, What did you say? What blasphemy is this? No, you hear this! He did not take my sin; He became my sin. Sin is the nature of hell. Sin is what made Satan…It was sin that made Satan. Jesus said, “I’ll be sin! I’ll go to the lowest place! I’ll go to the origin of it! I won’t just take part in it, I’ll be the totality of it!” When Jesus became sin, sir, He took it from A to Z and said, “No more!” Think about this: He became flesh, that flesh might become like Him. He became death, so dying man can live. He became sin, so sinners can be righteous in Him. He became one with the nature of Satan, so all those who had the nature of Satan can partake of the nature of God.” (Benny Hinn, Benny Hinn program on TBN (December 15, 1990).
First of all the origin of Sin is not Hell but from man, it is in our nature.
K.Copeland “The spirit of Jesus accepting that sin and making it to be sin, He separated from His God and at that moment He’s a mortal man. Capable of failure, capable of death. And if Satan is capable of overpowering Him there, he’ll win the universe and mankind is doomed. Don’t get the idea that Jesus was incapable of failure because if He had been, it would have been illegal.” (What Happened From the Cross to the Throne, Tape #00-0303)
Not only does he have Satan’s nature and has the Devil win (temporarily) but the Son who is God failed.
“He [Jesus] allowed the devil to drag Him into the depths of hell….He allowed Himself to come under Satan’s control…every demon in hell came down on Him to annihilate Him….They tortured Him beyond anything anybody had ever conceived. For three days He suffered everything there is to suffer.” (Kenneth Copeland, “The Price of It All,” 3.)
Talk about a fable, how does he know this? By the new revelation of the Jesus he serves, the one who failed became a sinner went to hell and was born again.
“For three days He suffered everything there is to suffer. Some people don’t want to believe that. They want to believe that after His death, Jesus just stayed in that upper region of Sheol that the Bible calls paradise, but they’re mistaken! If He had simply stayed there, there would have been no price paid for sin.” (Believer’s Voice of Victory, Vol. 19, No. 9, Sept. 1991)
Here Copeland makes it absolutely clear that the price had to be paid by suffering beyond the cross.This means he had no victory at the cross but he lost  and it was victory 3 days later in Hell.
“The Devil forgot to take into consideration that Jesus hadn’t sinned Himself but, rather, had merely become sin as a result of the sin of others.” (Kenneth Copeland, What Happened from the Cross to the Throne 1990 audio tape #02-0017, side 2.)
“… Jesus died two deaths. He died physically and He died spiritually. When Jesus was made to be sin, He was separated from God… When His blood poured out, it did not atone. It did away with the handwriting of the ordinances that were against us… Jesus spent three horrible days and nights in the bowels of this earth getting back for you and me our rights with God…” (doctrinal statement dated March 12, 1979)
Hagin denies unequivocally the “finished work on the cross. “Hagin states “He (Jesus) tasted spiritual death for every man. And his spirit and inner man went to hell in my place. Can’t you see that? PHYSICAL DEATH WOULDN’T REMOVE YOUR SINS. He tasted death for every man. He’s talking about spiritual death.” (how Jesus obtained his name tape # 44HO1 side 1)
Copeland repeats his mentor  by saying “The death of Jesus Christ was not a physical death alone. If it had been a physical death, Abel would have paid the price for mankind. He was the first man that died because of honoring God and His Word. If it had been a physical death only, it wouldn’t have worked! And if He hadn’t died spiritually, that body never would have died.” (What Happened From the Cross to the Throne, Tape #00-0303)
According to these new revelators Christianity has been mistaken for almost 1900 years. To put the redemption before or after the cross makes this another Gospel. It denies the sufficiency of the sacrifice. It was crucial that Jesus was sacrificed on that day at that hour in that way. If it occurred any other time it would not have been accepted by the Father.If Jesus became a sinner (actually worse to take the very nature of Satan) then he would need redemption. But he couldn’t redeem himself since he was no longer the unblemished lamb but sinful. Neither could he redeem any of us. If Jesus actually became sin as claimed then he no longer is an unblemished sacrifice Deut.15:21 tells us if any sacrifice had a fault or blemish it was not accepted.
All the animals chosen for the sin offering were types of Christ, according to Lev. 4:3, it was a bull without defect; Lev. 4:23, a goat without defect; Lev. 4:32, a lamb without defect. They were all carefully inspected  for any spot or blemish. In 1 Cor. 5:7, Jesus was the Paschal Lamb. As a substitutional sacrifice in the scapegoat motif the one who offered up the sacrifices would place his hand on the animal, signifying a symbolic transfer of sin and guilt (Lev. 4:4, 24,33) The sacrifice became the covering for the sin, God looked on the blood not the sin itself. Isa. 53:6 “…and the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all” It was the Father who laid his hand on Christ to be judged in our place. The sacrificial animal did not become sin itself, sin was symbolically charged to it, if it became blemished or in this case sin, it was worthless.
So If Jesus became sin or a demoniac (having the nature of Satan) God could not accept it, he would be a sinful offering. The Bible has a different story 1 Pt.1:19 tells us he was without blemish or defect on the cross. Lev.6:25 tells us the sin offering was most holy before God (not most sinful). Christ did not become sin itself, (2 Cor.5:21)” became” (in the Greek Metonym) means became a sin offering not became sin himself he was a vicarious atonement, he suffered in our place and took our penalty of judgment. In the OT typology the priest would lay his hands on the offering to symbolize the transfer of his sin and guilt. Jesus was the sin bearer , he carried it, not became it.
They replace Jesus saying, “Father, into Thy hands I commend My spirit,” With their theology of , “Satan, into your hands I commend My spirit.” (temporarily, until he’s born again)
When Jesus died he dismissed his own Spirit showing he had control something a mere man or a demon could not. He gave his spirit over to the Father not to Satan. he cried it is finished not it is continued. The veil of the Temple was ripped open immediately showing that God the father accepted his Sons work and it was completed, making the way open to all Heb.10
How can he be forgiven of being sinful in his nature. The faith teachers have the solution but its no better than what has already occurred, it progresses to even worse.
1 Cor. 12:3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. If Christ became sin itself and went to hell to be tortured that means he is accursed. So this proves it is not revelation from the true Spirit of God but another Spirit. Heb.9:14 disagrees with Copelands conversations with God, these revelations are not from the Lord we love and serve but from someone who has a lot less respect.
Here’s more from our Modern Gnostics spiritual propaganda. A reborn Jesus in Hell, suffering in Hell, paying our debt in Hell, all from new revelation knowledge.
“Satan and all the demons of hell thought that they had Him bound and they threw a net over Jesus and they dragged Him down to the very pit of hell itself to serve our sentence.” (F. Price, Ever Increasing Faith Messenger, Newsletter Crenshaw Christian Centre, Inglewood, CA. June 1980, p.7)

“That Word of the living God went down into that pit of destruction and charged the spirit of Jesus with resurrection power! Suddenly His twisted, death-wracked spirit began to fill out and come back to life. He began to look like something the devil had never seen before.” (“The Price of it All,” Believer’s Voice of Victory (September 1991)

Jesus was not tortured by Satan in hell. First of all Satan isn’t in Hell and he has no intention of going there, and he certainly doesn’t rule there (maybe they have been listening to too much heavy metal music). Yet he will be confined there with a lot of company. Any demons that are there are under lock and key (chains of darkness) they are not roaming free to torture everyone and check back in for a good nights sleep. Read 2 Pt.2:4 and Jude 6, besides Satan is not in control of Hell Jesus is. The only thing that should go to Hell is this atrocious doctrine of theirs.

So how does Jesus escape the torture of his enemies who now have victory over him?

“He [Jesus] was literally being reborn before the devil’s very eyes. He began to flex His spiritual muscles…. Jesus was born again-the firstborn from the dead the Word calls Him-and He whipped the devil in his own backyard. He took everything he had away from him. He took his keys and his authority away from him.” (p. 4-6.)
“It is important for us to realize that a born again man defeated Satan….Colossians 1:18 refers to Jesus as the firstborn from the dead….He was the first man to be reborn under the new covenant.” K. Copeland, “Jesus our Lord of Glory”: 3 )

There is hardly a difference between what Copeland does to this passage and the Jehovah’s Witnesses, both twist it beyond recognition. Notice he changes firstborn to reborn. The Greek word for firstborn (prototokos), has nothing to do with a new birth in the spirit but means primacy and pre-eminence in ruling It explains Christ’s supremacy over all creation as the first resurrected eternal man as Rev.1:5 states the firstborn from the dead and ruler over the kings of the earth.In col.1:18″the firstborn from the dead , that in all things. He may have preeminence (his rightful place as the sovereign Lord.)

“Why did He (Jesus) need to be begotten, or born? Because He became like we were: separated from God. Because He tasted spiritual death for every man….Jesus was the first person that was ever born again.” (K. Hagin, How Jesus Obtained His Name, Tulsa: Rhema)

Jesus is privileged to be the first born of many brethren, and they do mean “born again.”

“Jesus … was raised up a born-again man … The day I realized that a born-again man had defeated Satan, hell, and death, I got so excited …!” (Believer’s Voice of Victory , September, 1991)

Why would this excite anyone? Well here’s the answer . “The Spirit of God spoke to me and He said, ‘Son, realize this. Now follow me in this and don’t let your tradition trip you up.’ He said, ‘Think this way—a twice-born man whipped Satan in his own domain.’ And I threw my Bible down…. I said, ‘What?’ He said, ‘A born-again man defeated Satan, the firstborn of many brethren defeated him.’ He said, ‘You are the very image, the very copy of that one.’ I said, ‘Well now you don’t mean, you couldn’t dare mean, that I could have done the same thing?’ He said, ‘Oh yeah, if you’d had the knowledge of the Word of God that He did, you could’ve done the same thing, ‘cause you’re a reborn man too.” (Kenneth Copeland, Substitution and Identification (Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1989), tape #00-0202, side 2.) Copeland demotes Christ and elevates himself, all that is required is to know the word. But Jesus was the word made flesh! No one can come close to the knowledge and wisdom that was intrinsically in his nature, HE’S GOD!

Benny Hinn can barely contain himself when the same Spirit starts to speak to him on this: “My, you know, whoosh! The Holy Ghost is just showing me some stuff. I’m getting dizzy! I’m telling you the truth …He’s [speaking of Jesus] in the underworld now. God isn’t there, the Holy Ghost isn’t there, and the Bible says He was begotten. Do you know what the word begotten means? It means reborn. Do you want another shocker? Have you been begotten? So was He. Don’t let anyone deceive you. Jesus was reborn. You say, ‘What are you talking about?’…He was reborn. He had to be reborn…If He was not reborn, I could not be reborn, I would never be reborn. How can I face Jesus and say, “Jesus, You went through everything I’ve gone through, except the new birth?” (Benny Hinn, Our Position ‘In Christ,’ Part 1 Orlando Christian Center, 1991)
Hinn agrees with Copeland that Jesus lost his deity became a sinner and needed to have the new birth. Remember this is “his Holy Ghost” telling him this. What this means is that it is the same spirit that heals people. What Spirit do you think this is? Not the true one with lies like this one.

Kenneth Hagin states “He (Jesus) tasted spiritual death for every man.
Much like his discipler, Kenneth Copeland also states “If it had been a physical death only, it wouldn’t have worked! And if He hadn’t died spiritually, that body never would have died.” (What Happened From the Cross to the Throne, Tape #00-0303)
In Peter 3:18, Peter states that Christ was “Put to death in the flesh, but quickened (made alive) by the Spirit.” This tells us he died in the flesh but was alive in the Spirit. He did not die spiritually and suffer the same fate as sinful man in hell, even temporarily. He didn’t lose his deity, God cannot change his nature!    This does not mean that He died spiritually and now he is spiritually resurrected, or by the Spirit. It means he died in the body and his body resurrected.
Acts 2:27, 13:35-37  tells us God would not let him see corruption or decay, this is a term for mortality and fallen humanity. He is contrasted to David who saw sin. Christ was separated on the cross  for a time and restored before he died.
Acts 2:27  For You will not leave my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. Vs.31-32″he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.  “This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses.” Notice it says in both soul and body. It is this Jesus the apostles preached, this is not true for the new apostles.
To say God died spiritually the way they define it is a new revelation, but not a biblical one. Heb.10:10 says “we are set apart by the offering of Jesus body once for all.” Redemption was and is through the blood. Scripture does not point to any event continuing afterward as part of our redemption. There is no salvation apart from His blood sacrifice, without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins.
So much more could be quoted and said but this is sufficient evidence to make it clear they care little about the historic Christian faith but are leading the Church to another place with another Gospel and another Christ. Your choice is to either follow the truth or men who claim to have new truth. Not much of a choice if you love the Lord.

The Apostle Peter warns 2 Pt. 2:1-3: “But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.”
They will purposely try not to be noticed and bring division in the church by distorting and departing from the word. They will lay down truth alongside the falsehood (paraeis akousein) and secretly bring in destructive heresies. The truth they lay the Scripture next to their own false interpretations.  This is a malicious intent to deceive, arising from their being deceived first, propagating the same lie they believe.
They will deny the Lord who died for them by presenting a different view of the gospel. The focus is not on the cross for salvation. Many will follow their path to destruction. The way of truth is blasphemed because of their actions, the cause of Christ is discredited, and truth is cast down and slandered.

There will also be false teachers among you.” false teachers can be very effective communicators, they can have a personal magnetism. They use smooth and flattering speech to bring you into their bondage, They present their teaching cleverly, very smoothly.
Its amazing that false teachers are not rejected for their distorted teachings but are actually embraced. Support is not lacking for these men, but is overwhelming. But all this does is give them confidence that they are right and puffs them up further for future revelations of the Spirit. (We have heaped up teachers for ourselves in the last days). They come to us in “sheep’s clothing” and appearing harmless. We’re not talking about the cults, we’re talking about those who rise from within the Church and promote false doctrine. If we are not paying attention we can be deceived and turned away from our purity and devotion to Jesus Christ.
By covetousness they exploit people deceiving them. They make people want things of the world, promoting the lust of the eyes and the flesh and the pride of life. Money is always a part of their message. They justify their own worldly ways by having others do the same.
False teachers do what the devil did with the scripture when he quoted it to Jesus. They quote true things and lift them out of their context. Their is always a curve or twist in the pitch. They promise a quick fix for the emergencies of life when God works with the person slowly to get his purposes done. Discounting an intervention of a miracle from his hands, God is teaching us patience endurance and certainly godly knowledge as he walks us through this life of trials.
If one stands in front of the cross instead of behind how can Christ be glorified? How can Jesus be noticed? What we find is that this is too often what happens. All the attention is drawn to the conductor on stage, even if he is saying glory to God. With the modus operandi of miracles and wonders they are endorsed by the people as specially anointed and gifted men operating under the instruction of God.
The common denominator of signs and wonders changes the focus from the word to power activities. This lowers ones reception for the words Jesus spoke, to a fresh word for today from the anointed prophet.
The Apostles would name those who distorted the gospel, the authority of scripture, the person of Christ or morality, this would include taking advantage of the sheep.

A warning from an apostle

Apostle Paul is the author of over half the NT writings , Peter writes in 2 Peter 3:15-17, “Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless menand fall from your secure position.”
Many so called anointed teachers downplay and even mock biblical education and academics to be used for understanding the Scriptures. This would eliminate the apostle Paul who God chose to be the main evangelist to the gentile world as his conveyer of the grace of God. God chose the most learned man of Judaism to write and communicate what we have today. He didn’t lack education but was overeducated. God picked the most learned man from Judaism to write the major portion of the NT. He used what he knew under the instruction of Christ to give Christ glory.
Unlearned men and women who come in the name of the Lord, who stand in front of a sign saying Jesus is Lord deny much of what he taught. A great number of people who have been propelled into a position of leadership have world teaching ministries based upon no education, having nor qualifications to teach. Despite the accusations of Peter or John being only fisherman they were Jews who were brought up on the scriptures and probably had a handle on more than many of the educated today. In Judaism it was a way of life to memorize and understand huge portions of scripture. The reason they didn’t understand much of the messiahs teaching is because their interpretations came from the Pharisees who departed from the word adding their own meanings. Have you checked out today’s teachers credentials? I’m not saying everyone must go to a certain seminary but it does help, not hinder. Did they put any time in learning the culture or language of scripture, or Theology and the art of biblical interpretation. You may be shocked to find out their lack and disdain for what we are admonished by the apostles to have.
Timothy 2:15 tells us to, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We are encouraged to work hard putting the time in to studying and understanding the Word.  The phrase rightly dividing‘ in the Greek  means ‘to make a straight cut, to dissect correctly. We are to ASSEMBLE TOGETHER ALL THE TEACHINGS ON SUBJECTS, THIS IS WHAT THEOLOGY IS ALL ABOUT. Paul was not only an evangelist, but a theologian as well. a Shepherd is to know theology so he is able to teach correct doctrine to the sheep.
To make a  effort to correctly understand what God has written in His Word to His people is to be honest . 1 Tim 4:6: “If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.” 1 Tim 4:13-16: “Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.”
Teaching that mislead people or those whose motives were clearly questionable   were named to protect the innocent. In 3 Jn. 9-10 John the apostle names Diotrephes, “ I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us. Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.” John named him because he wouldn’t accept the teaching of the apostles. He persisted in false doctrine he wanted to be first among them, having pride he was self serving, not looking out for the people. All false teaching and the need to be recognized above others comes from pride.

False prophets

In the Old Testament they did not prophesy under Jesus’ name, but Yahweh’s name. In the New Testament it was Jesus’ (Yeshua- Iesous) This clearly shows we are under a new covenant and we deal with false prophets differently, we don’t stone them to have them depart from the assembly.  However we do not allow them to flourish within the assembly hoping they will get better at their prophesying. There is no such thing as a prophet learning to prophesy. Today they get 30%, 70% right, hoping to improve it to 100%. Only false prophets practice to be perfect. Yet some defend this position saying the Church is not ready. The Church has always been ready for the perfection of Gods gifts. Prophets prophesy over others and when it doesn’t come to pass its blamed on the recipient for not having enough faith for it to happen. Prophesy is not from the will of man but from God. When God gave the prophecies concerning Israel as a nation, it certainly was not dependent upon their faith. There were prophecies that were conditional to avert Gods intent. Like Jonahs they were base on the reaction of the people. God’s purposed to destroy them but mixed with judgment he will have mercy on some of his pronouncements. Jeremiah 18:7-10: “The instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it;   IF THAT NATION, AGAINST WHOM I HAVE PRONOUNCED TURNS FROM ITS EVIL, I WILL RELENT OF THE DISASTER THAT I THOUGHT TO BRING UPON IT.  And the instant I   speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plan it; if it does evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will relent concerning   the good, with which I said I would benefit It.” Jonah 3:9-10 the king said, “Who can tell if God will turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish. “Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way and God relented from the disaster.” Jonah was angry because he knew God was gracious and merciful and did not want to see these people spared.
Deut 13:1-10 tells us about prophets or those with dreams who have a sign or a wonder come to pass. Even if they get their prophecies right but have you follow another God (such as misrepresenting him). We are being tested to see if we love the Lord fully and obey his voice (his word) alone. If they represent God as a force or power that we can control or distort his nature as they do today, even if the miraculous happens we are not to heed them.
People prophesy right because their doctrine is right. Why would God speak to someone about the future when they can’t understand the scripture on what he has already spoken? Their predictions don’t come true because their teaching is wrong. So false teachers when they prophesy will become false prophets. This is exactly What the Apostle Peter states. Both were among the early Church, both are with us today.

Apologetics is for one to give an answer to those outside the Church; polemics are to give answers to those things inside. In its infancy the Church was just as involved in polemics as it was to reach outside its walls. Many of the epistles are to correct error from inside body because God is first concerned what goes on with people, before his people can affect others correctly. But the church has become more concerned with needing money to go out to the world and because of this it has given rise to some new teachings inside its walls.
TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) and LeSea Broadcasting have had the door opened to numerous opportunities, tremendous ones. Imagine having the ability to give the unchanging Gospel of Christ to almost every nation on earth. But with these opportunities comes great responsibility. Sometimes things done under the banner of Christ can have one leave their responsibility by the wayside. There are some disturbing trends emerging on these networks that need to be exposed and looked at by every Christian.
They promise prosperity, increase, that blessings will overtake you, a Jubilee anointing where debt’s canceled. They have miracle cloths, miracle TV, miracle crusades, your miracles are always coming your way. You just need to receive them, put your hand out and touch your TV, etc. From what we see and hear on Christian TV one would think the Church has never been in better shape, were fit and ready to roll anywhere as evangelistic servants, right? Not quite. The Church has never wobbled more than she is today and its all because we’ve bought into the false advertising of the Christian vendors.
Today on both TBN and LeSea network Christian broadcasts we see the newest ruse in bilking people who are Biblically illiterate out of their money, that should be going to the local church. The Jubilee scam is the newest get rich scheme for Christian’s, which was strictly intended for Israel and their land.wpe6.jpg (4763 bytes)
What is the Jubilee? It’s found in Lev.25 It is related to the Sabbatical year and the general instructions for its observance are found in Lev. 25:8-16,23-55. Its relation is to lands dedicated to the Lord are given in 27:16-25.
1.”Personal Liberty: The 50th year was to be a time in which liberty should be proclaimed to all the inhabitants of the country. We should, indeed, diminish the import of this institution if we should apply it only to those who were to be freed from the bonds of physical servitude. Undoubtedly, they must have been the foremost in realizing its beneficial effects. But the law was intended to benefit all, the masters as well as the servants. They should never lose sight of their being brothers and citizens of the theocratic kingdom. They owed their life to God and were subject to His sovereign will. Only through loyalty to Him were they free and could ever hope to be free and independent of all other masters.
2. Restitution of Property: The institution of the Jubilee Year should become the means of fixing the price of real property (25:15 f; compare verses 25-28); moreover, it should exclude the possibility of selling any piece of land permanently (25:23), the next verse furnishing the motive: “The land is mine: for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.” The same rule was to be applied to dwelling-houses outside of the walled cities (25:31), and also to the houses owned by Levites, although they were built within walled cities (verse 32).
In the same manner the price of Hebrew slaves was to vary according to the proximity of the Jubilee 7 Year (25:47-54). This passage deals with the enslaving of a Hebrew by a foreigner living among the Jews; it goes without saying that the same rule would hold good in the case of a Hebrew selling himself to one of his own people.
(Reversion of Landed Property Lev. 25:10-34; 27:16-24. The law of Moses provided that all the Promised Land was to be divided by lot among the Israelites, and then it was to remain absolutely inalienable. Therefore, at Jubilee all property in fields and houses situated in villages or unwalled towns, which the owner had been obliged to sell through poverty and that had not been redeemed, was to revert without payment to its original owner or his lawful heirs. The only exceptions were houses in walled cities, which remained with the buyer unless redeemed within one year 25:29-30, and those fields which, unless redeemed by the owner, had been sold and thereby rendered unredeemable 27:17-21, in which case they reverted to the priests ( New Unger’s Bible Dictionary)
Lets say you bought a house or a car today and it was repossessed because you could not keep up with the payments. It was to be returned to you in this year. This proves this is exclusively for the Israelites and not Christians, since we as a nation are not under theocratic law because everyone would receive its benefits.
The law stated three facets in which the Jubilee was to be hallowed, separated from other years: 1) rest for the soil, 2) reversion of landed property, 3) and manumission of Israelites.
Rest for the Soil. No sowing, or reaping, or gathering from the unpruned vine (Lev. 25:11). Thus the soil enjoyed a rest, man was freed from their labor of sowing and reaping, having a blessed rest he was to enjoy the surplus provided by the Lord in the sixth year (vs. 21).
Israel is celebrating its fiftieth year in the land but this is not an official Jubilee. the Jubilee was a practical way for Israel as a nation to prosper
Steve Munson, Bro. Shambach and Rod Parsley, Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn etc. point to Luke 4:17-19: “And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; he has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
If this is true what they are saying that this year is the Jubilee then there is a huge problem with their arithmetic. Lets take a look. Most scholars and historians agree Jesus was born anywhere from 3-6 BC. This reference in Lk.4 is when he starts his ministry at the age of thirty years approximately (Lk.3:23) . So this occurred somewhere between the date of 25- 29 AD. A Jubilee year is to be every fifty years so if we count by every 2 jubilee years as one hundred years, we have 19 jubilee years from Christ to today which brings us to the date of around 1977 -1980 not 1998. A Jubilee year is not when one makes it arbitrarily but it is counted from the time it started. Israel is celebrating this by their being 50 years in the land. We have nothing to do with this as the Church.
Not only this celebration wrong, but the term” the acceptable year” appears only once and it is in the NT. In Greek it reads to preach year of the Lord the acceptable. It means approved the Greek word dektos comes from the root word dechomai– 1) to take with the hand to take hold of, to take up 2) to take up, to receive a) used of a place receiving one b) to receive or grant access to, a visitor, not to refuse intercourse or friendship 1) to receive hospitality 2) to receive into one’s family to bring up or educate c) used of the thing offered in speaking, teaching, instructing to receive favorably, give ear to, embrace, make one’s own, approve, not to reject d) to receive, that is, to take upon oneself, to sustain, to bear, to endure 3) to receive, get to learn
“Jesus boldly links the coming age with himself- an. age which the prophet must have had in mind since the people were still oppressed. Acceptable year- it is an allusion to the Jubilee year (Isa.49:8, 2 Cor.6:2) Here the expression obviously relates to the era of Gods favor upon man in which he accept all who will come to him.” He is presenting himself as the solution and answer to all that plagues man. (New commentary on the whole bible)
It was Steve Munson from what I can gather who launched this hoax last September on LeSea broadcasting as he introduced the Jubilee year teaching amidst his other imaginative solicitations…
“This is your year for God to do a miracle Asking for 19.97 for the next 12 months, there are 500 people God is speaking to, I’m going to put your name upon the foundation for giving $1,000”…go to your phone right now quickly go to your phone right now… And every person that calls I’m going to decree over your life I’m going to speak over your life. “Let me tell you something…the spirit of the Lord is doing a miracle in the meantime I’m going to tell you the power of miracles is fixin to be performed into your life when you give a vow it gives us the power to decree. For the Bible says bring a vow with your prayers then you can decree and it will be established (go search for this scripture think its found in revelation 29.) that means when you give that pledge we gonna be able to rule on the prince and powers of the devil that means we are going to be able to decree over that miracle you need, were gonna curse that cancer in your body were gonna see those children come back to God in the next 30 days, were gonna see the financial miracle begin to happen in your life. I can’t do it until you call and say I’m going top make a pledge…oh god is fixin to do miracle In your life…”
The wall at the new prayer room of LeSea broadcasting is filing up with names from $19.97 pledges. Their names are being written on the wall and for those who give $1,000 or more they are written on the floor (foundation) of the room.
Were going to send you the foundation stones (He goes over and gets a shovel and with the permission of Sumerall starts digging up the foundation stones from the ground.) He promises to send a pebble to each contributor in the mail. I guess this is about as close as one can get to the pet rock scam from years ago.
“The spirit of the Lord is upon you and I’m speaking to you and a miracle is going to happen in the next few minutes when all of the vows are on here then were gonna have a massive prayer and the power of God is gonna go through.”
“Earlier this year the Lord spoke to me and said 1997 will be the year the acceptable year of the Lord and wherever you go on television wherever you go, I’m going to put an anointing.”
“I’ve given the prescription now the miracle is going to happen to their children their going to have to reach in their heart and their going to have to walk to the phone and when they pick up the phone I know what’s going to happen the devil is going to go crazy he’s going to have to bow his head and God you’re going to stand up when you stand up God that means Satan’s going to have to give back double just like he did to Job… I release right now 100 people to go to their phones to give a thousand dollars.” There are 10 people you spoke to me that’s going to give $10,000 there’s one person watching me that’s going to give $50,000 there’s is another person, there’s hundred people that are going to give 500 hundred dollars seed gift there’s another group of people that are going to give a 300 dollar seed gift in the name of Jesus Go.”
“There’s 500 people that is going to give 19.97 for the next 12 months, there’s 500 people that are going to give$1,000 oh I see miracles happen, I see miracles happen ,father you’re doing it now Lord , go to the phone , go to the phone, go to the phone right now quickly here’s a phone right here quickly quickly go to your phone every phone needs to ring.”
“I hear it in my spirit… God is fixin to double your finances… I see it in my spirit. God is fixin to give you a raise.. fixin to rebuke the devour over your children.”
“I see miracles happen…go to your phone quickly…”(the hotline with God)
Potters House (T.D Jakes church) shown on Lesea June 12 1998 on Breakthrough (R. Parsley)
Here are some of the excerpts…Parsley declares loudly, “It must be my turn for my thing from my God, Its JUBILEE.”
What’s this all about? Me, Me , Me. Its self focused ,bless me, not make me a blessing for others in need. No wonder people are going wild it caters to our old nature.
He also states… “the word anointed means to immerse or to rub in but the actual translation is to paint, …”Were priests painted or was oil poured over their head.
“The year of jubilee the high priest would put the shofar to his mouth and he’d blow that trumpet, at the sounding of that trumpet every captive went free, every debt was canceled everything went back to God. “
Speaking about how the Lord told him people are bound “I’m about to set you free addictions that you had for years are about to fall off of you I’m telling you , you don’t have to do anything but just receive that’s it….this is your night, this is your night as the high priest standing in this Holy place I’m gonna put this shofar to my mouth and the moment I blow it every demon is coming off your shoulders outta of your mind outta your finances when I blow it I want you to shout like you never shouted a shout of victory and freedom that you will .. are you ready”(he blows the whistle and everyone is screaming.)
There is only one high priest and that is Jesus, if its Parsley were in deep trouble. In my opinion this is a perfect example of what Jesus warned about in Mt. 24 many will say that they are Christ (anointed).
…Its time that you saw its the year of Jubilee and regardless of how hard you tried God said its not about you trying, I’m stepping into your life, I’m stepping into your marriage, I’m stepping into your finances , I’m stepping into your family, I’m stepping into your children I’m stepping into your business I’m stepping into your home, I’m taking control of everything in your life and when you hear the sound of the trumpet know that its jubilee and all your debts are canceled and every captive is set free.”… and he blows a whistle [not the trumpet , which means it didn’t happen and he is probably not responsible if it doesn’t work]
It’s JUBILEE, Its JUBILEE, Its JUBILEE (place breaks out in pandemonium)
There is also the jubilee anointing to set you free and cancel all your debts. Since he and others can’t find the jubilee in the New Testament teaching they have to go back to the Old Testament. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a Jubilee anointing only a feast day. This doesn’t stop Parsley from using his imagination to work his crowd up with false promises of this unbiblical anointing!
“well send that prayer cloth back to you believing God to transfer his Jubilee anointing into your life and mark you for a miracle .”..
There is no such thing as a Jubilee anointing, go search it out in the scripture you’ll find it right next to Millennium anointing in Rev.23, 24 or 25, take your pick. In other words it’s made up! 1 Jn.2:20 we have an anointing from the holy one vs. 27 the anointing we received from him abides in us it is the same one that teaches and leads us into truth. The Holy Spirit is our anointing, he’s God and you can’t transfer God like this especially into a handkerchief or anything other inanimate object that they come up with.
Parsley drives on, “right now I want to mark or target your greatest need whether finances health, family situations with the anointing of God for your miracle . In the early church people saw tangible transfer of the anointing from the apostle Paul to those he laid hands on so then they began to give him handkerchief’s for him to pray over and miracles followed Acts 19:12 declares that diseases departed from them and evil spirits went of them. The clothes became a point of contact for the anointing to be transferred to others I want to mark your prayer cloth with the tangible anointing of God
Biblically Acts 19:11-12: “Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.” They weren’t bringing handkerchiefs to Paul to pray over, but that’s what Parsley wants you to think so his ploy will work. They certainly were not asking for money either.
Theses were extraordinary not common miracles and they were by his hands as an apostle these signs would follow them. This is not a normal practice for a regular Christian nor was it one for the apostles. Paul did not put his hands on other peoples prayer clothes for them to get it. It could mean he used these to wipe the sick and they got healed but it wasn’t the handkerchief ministry, anymore than Jesus taught to practice here’s mud or spit in your eye ministry.
Paul did not distribute clothes for people to release their faith they were healed by the clothes by their being laid on the sick persons body (Strongs concordance # 4612 simikinthion- a narrow apron, or a linen covering, which workmen and servants were accustomed to wear.) This was something that Paul wore himself that was used not someone else’s. The current focus is on the world Infatuated with success instead of the debt he already forgave.
It was A. A. Allen who started the prayer cloth scam anointed with miracle oil. (Miracle oil Flows at Camp meeting,” Miracle Magazine June 1967 p. 6-7)
Prayer clothes are highly fashionable fetishes during these Jubilee days. The question is if your anointed, why do you need to send your cloth to Parsley to get the anointing, which can’t be transferred in the first place?

Is the acceptable year mean that it is Jubilee?
Luke 4:18 the acceptable year of the Lord, v. 19. Christ came to let the world know that the God whom they had offended was willing to be reconciled to them, and to accept them on new terms; that there is now a time of good will toward men. Ps. 89:15. It was an acceptable time, for it was a day of salvation that was being offered to all as the Messiah appeared. As far as the connection with the year of Jubilee Lev. 25:28 is also called the “year of liberty” Ezek. 46:17; NIV, “year of freedom” but I can’t find a reference to the acceptable year meaning Jubilee. No such thing.
Not since Tetzel’s indulgences do we see such scheming. In the 16th century they sold false splinters of the cross vials of Mary’s breast milk, and lets not forget the Dominican monk who invented a way out for those who when they die can’t go to heaven because they were not pure enough. Morris Cerullo even had a sale on his Holy Ghost miracle handkerchiefs that are suppose to get one out of debt. ( reported in Moriel newsletter no.6 1996)
TBN builds an altar to the Lord to burn their debts on the fire so it will go into the Lords presence. Steve Munson builds an ark of the covenant on LeSea network and is going to bring people debts in between the cherubim where the blood was sprinkled. Nowhere do we see anyone offer up there debt as a sweet aroma to God. God always asks for the best not our worst. This is all strange fire!

“You know I believe debt comes from the Devil somebody says well I don’t have no $2,000 no but you got $950,000 worth of debt, no wonder you ain’t got $2,000 its all wrapped up here , the Devil got you tied up with it, and I’m trying to get you out of it, well how am I gonna do that, do what God told me to tell you to do, now listen to the man of God he said go to the phone and make a pledge of $2,000 he says you tell them people I’ll make sure they get it within 90 days that’s your seed don’t eat , don’t go buying that new dress, I want you send that right in to TBN.
You don’t eat your seed, you don’t spend your seed , you sow your seed and when you sow it your gonna reap a harvest.” I tell you folks he’ll send it back to you in a harvest some 30, some 60 some 90 and some 100 fold..”
“…God told me to do one extra thing burn it, and when you call I want you to let them know how much debt your in.”
Not only do we get to hear how much people give, but now they know the amount of your debt and your financial status. How shrewd.
He seems to have overlooked Mark 4:18-19: “Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word “and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.” One can be very fruitful in material blessings and be bankrupt in their spirituality, there is a delicate balance.
This is a Violation of Jesus teachings = Shambach “I’ve given more to God this year than we ever given in our life.”
Matt 6:3-4 “But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, “that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”
Throughout their fundraisers they read what people give out loud and now they know their debts. They parade their giving in front of the whole world, exactly what Jesus said not to do. All this does is appeals to one pride.
On Paul Crouches TBN network, Shambach says, “I’m out of debt. They say what did you give $2,000 for? I want to stay out.” “And If your out of debt I want you to give something, you have it.”I’ve heard you in the Spirit” “God blesses other folks but I’m one of Gods poor children, God ain’t got no poor children! We are all blessed but it comes through giving to God,” (He’s able to hear other people speak to God in the spirit, God doesn’t open up our conversations to himself, this if is true he is psychic.) Is this how God operates? We pay him off to keep us from our own mistakes or things that can happen in life. I think I’d rather hear him say to go fishing and find the money people need to pay off their debts in the fish. I certainly hope I’m not giving any new revelation to anyone!
Shambach TBN Nov.7 1997 “Don’t eat your seed, you sow it” The only thing that needs to be buried in the ground is this teaching. What nerve to change to word into money and tell them to send it to them to get their blessing from God.
On TBN-While the Lord instructed Paul in 2 Cor. 8:5 as giving by grace in what is known as the Macedonian call for one church. God has instructed Shambach with a greater formula of $2,000 for the all the church in the whole world.
“The devil knows that this is the key to your being delivered and set free.” “But you have to listen to the man of God.” The key to being set free is no longer the cross but money, this is modern day neo-Pentecostal indulgences. We can now get an understanding how the Catholic church began it so many years ago. Its always been a scam but fear and promises work so well on the biblically ignorant.
“ And God promised me that within 90 days your gonna have it, you may find it under your wife’s pillow.” (I guess this is a Christianized version of the tooth fairy) she got a hiding place and some of you men have a hiding place…
So instantaneous is this revelations manifestation that Shambach says, “I’ve seen people get out of debt before we burn things.” But we don’t find this in the scripture were God promises before you burn your debt I will release you from it.
“This debt that you see were gonna burn it and the flame and the smoke are going up right into, into the throne room and its going to go right by the prince and the power of the air and were gonna blast him with it and then go in and let God know were gonna believe his word and he’s gonna take us out of debt, why because your making a sacrifice.”
God spoke to me before I even arrived here on Sunday…I believe I heard from heaven and this is the result you know I heard from heaven (pointing to the stack of debt pledges) God spoke to my heart and he told me to tell you to make a pledge for $2,000 and I know the reaction to that people say I don’t have “I know you don’t that’s why I said make a pledge, some of you have it if you do send it in but I want you to get on the phone and I want you to tell the prayer partner just what your going to do I Am going to accept the challenge just to see what God has done look at all this. And were not burning anything yet.”
“Now God told me and I convey it to you as the man of God” (he points to the stack of pledges) Now don’t try to bargain basement God, don’t try to get by with just $1,000, God said two, this is what he spoke to me… I did it my wife, I talked with her this morning she said when do you want me to send it, I said” I thought you did” Send it in I need it now and I believe it will be in the mail.”
“This is a faith promise that means you don’t have it but your gonna put your faith to work, $2,000 and God promised me this and I believe I got a word from God… God said within 3 months 90 days your gonna have it all, just send it in.” So shambuck does admit it didn’t come from the Bible.
Shambach says its a faith promise, “You say I don’t have 2,000 call in and place it on altar in 90 days God will put 2,000 in your hands. (now who won’t have $2,000 in the next 90 days from working?
Shambach “ Do you know how much debt he started with this morning 300 million when we get this all together its liable to go to a trillion dollars.” Later on Paul Crouch says” … estimated that there was nearly a trillion dollars worth of debt that has been phoned in by gods people “ That’s a good portion of the national debt, if not almost the whole debt of the American people excluding the gov’t..
He uses the Bible illegally saying “As the widow woman was obedient to the prophet of God.” Referring to himself. In the Old Testament no one wanted to be a prophet, they’d argue with God, today everyone is one ,even with God arguing with them that they’re not.
Yalking and railing against the devil “Devil were serving notice on ya that atmosphere that your in the prince and the power of the air your going to see the smoke your gonna smell the smoke were gonna stuff your nose with and then its going right up into the holy of Holies to let God know we believe his word. You’ve given us power to get wealth and you’ve broken the back of debt in our life.”
‘There’s no gimmicks to this thing its a divine principle you give to God your planting a seed and your gonna reap a harvest.”
All the blessings go though the self appointed high priest of Jubilee and the mediator is the TBN network. What if one wants to give $2,000 to someone else’s ministry instead, it won’t work, it must be good ground which is either theirs or LeSea‘s programming.
Is a debt a sacrifice? No! Does God ever say you should make a promise when you don’t have anything to back it up.
Eccl. 5:4-5 “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; for He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed–Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.”
(Romans 11:35).”Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?” This rhetorical question has no answer, because the answer is obvious. You cannot give to God with any expectation that God will end up being in debt to you. God is obligated to no one especially to be strong armed to bail people out by coercion. You can’t buy your miracle whether its for healing wealth or to relieve you of debt. What ever happened to a love relationship with God instead all we have been hearing is law.
There is a law of sowing and reaping and there are rewards for good works. But, contrary to the teachings of the prosperity crowd, you cannot act so as to place God in your debt. And the rewards are eternal not to be enjoyed here on earth!
Deut. 24:10-13 “When you lend your brother anything, you shall not go into his house to get his pledge. “You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you lend shall bring the pledge out to you. “And if the man is poor, you shall not keep his pledge overnight. “You shall in any case return the pledge to him again when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his own garment and bless you; and it shall be righteousness to you before the LORD your God.”
“Now you have to initiate it and I want you to call the number on the screen I’m just giving you what God dropped in my spirit you make a $2,000 pledge now if you have the money send that in but still need to call in because we want the information here , your bringing your sacrifice to the altar we have prepared an altar here for your sacrifice , and for your needs …we want you to give the prayer partner on the phone the exact total of your debt.” One would think they are going in the banking business the way they are asking for the exact amount, why? Your guess is as good as anyone’s.
Paul Crouch speaking to Shambach “I have to give credit to brother John (Avanzini) for this, don’t necessarily wait until the whole $2,000 is in your hand . Shambach says “very good thought” a hundred dollars as a little first fruits of that seed that God is going to put in your hand maybe its $10 ya’know that just kind of says to God , gives God a little message.. it says it sorta cements the deal and says God I believe I trust you and I’m gonna take the first little step toward you and I’m gonna put a small portion of that $2,000 in the ground now….”

Heres how it ends!
On TBN David Yanov from the Messianic congregation in Linwood Washington came to blow the shofar as they were to put everyone’s debts on the fire. He read what was printed on paper Lev. 26:6, 3 matches were lit by Shambuckrepresenting the Trinity.
David says, “I proclaim TBN to usher in the coming of the LORD.” He then burns the paper with the scripture he read previously. This was the first thing thrown in the fire, the word of God! Then all the people’s debts were burned that were called in.
Crouch turns to Shambach and says “Its just like you said the smoke is going right on up, look, look, look right on up into the prince of the power of the airs territory putting him out of business and then ascending into the Holy of Holies.”
Num. 15:2-3: “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you have come into the land you are to inhabit, which I am giving to you,’ and you make an offering by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering or a sacrifice, to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering or in your appointed feasts, to make a sweet aroma to the LORD, from the herd or the flock,” Who is this for ? Israel not Christians otherwise you might as well keep all the law.
What they do is bring people back into the Old Testament shadows and types and remove them from the New Testament substance. Yet the people don’t seem to care because they have a spirit of coveting so they put up with the unbiblical practice.
God does not ask for us to burn our debt, debts are never considered a sacrifice. God asks for our best not our worst. This is equivalent to someone looking for a refrigerator and we give them one at home that is broken saying here is a refrigerator I’m giving it to you as a sacrifice.
People who have had poor management of their money and business are already naïve to these tactics so they are ripe for the picking by spiritual hustlers.
Gal.4:10: “You observe days and months and seasons and years. “But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be know by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? “You observe days and months and seasons and years.” V.10 states, “you observe, days (weekly Sabbaths) , months (new moons), seasons (the 7 feasts. ) and years (Years are the sabbatical years, every 7 and the 50th year of Jubilee). Here the Judaizer’s wanted the people to keep the law. This Paul said was a sign of weakness and immaturity , even bondage.” Welcome to modern Christianity same as the Judaizer’s Christianity!
God doesn’t ask for our monies in the Jubilee, he forgives debts and gives back. The prosperous were to help the needy, this means those who are not in debt, which is TBN, should not be asking for our money they should be giving theirs away and they should be buying the debts off the people. (Lev.27:1-34)
In the Jubilee year there is to be no sowing or reaping no gatheringit is just like a sabbatical year every 7 years. They are sowing and reaping the opposite of what God said.
On LeSea May /98 This worked so well on TBN that Shambach was asked to come to LeSea and do it all over again. (it was just played over LeSea again this Aug.)
Shambach “If he did it for me he’ll do it for you.but you have to do something”  He refers to Deut. 28…“God’s not going to force you to do this (neither will he manipulate you) if you harken to my voice walk in my ways keep my commandments and my statutes. But in the book of Deut there is another verse that says if you refuse to Gods not going to force you to do anything. He said choose He said if you refuse not to obey my voice not obey my commandments then all of these curses will come upon you. Nobody wants to hear this but if I’m going to be a faithful minister of the gospel I need to give you both sides of the coin.” A faithful minister of the gospel would hardly do what he has done to the people hurting the most.
(let them know how much debt you have and how many children you have) “I’m going to pray a 9 fold blessing on you children… I’ll ask God to save them at the earliest possible age ,and then build a wall of protection around them,…I’m going ask God to keep them from sin, sickness, disease, infirmity, drug addiction. Alcohol, accident, perversion (not becoming a homosexual or lesbian) and the 9th blessing no plague shall come nigh your dwelling.”
“Now this is going to be your year of Jubilee folks.”
“…people are out of debt because they did what I asked them to do” And I’m under direct orders of the Holy Spirit, I’m not a novice I didn’t just start in the ministry, this is 50 years. And I don’t mind telling you one thing I Am I’m a man of God…”When God speaks to me I know its God. The first thing God told me to ask people to do is ask people to take a step of faith and make a faith promise I don’t like the word pledge I said a faith promise by faith your going to do this, make a faith promise over the next 12 months of $2,000. You say oh brother Shamback, I aint got no $2,000 I know you don’t see you can’t accuse me of being after your money now you heresy hunters out there saying all he’s after is there money, “they don’t have any (no not now but they will have soon!) But I’m trying to tell how they can get it.!” By making a faith promise to Lesea network you are going to be blessed.
“Next thing I want you to do, say I don’t have “then pay the tithe on it.” (now he wants people to tithe on the debt of which they have not earned income on)
“… And I asked farmer I said when you put a seed in the ground how long does it take to germinate ? 90 days , 90 days to germinate I wondered why God told me this.”
“.. .If you have it pay it all now.” (if you have it all then your not in debt, why give it when the promise is for those to get out of debt ?)
“ Cause I got grandchildren I want to keep them out of debt. C’mon grandma I want you to get on. You say your not out of debt, make a faith promise for your grandchildren for your sons and your daughters.” I guess there is an older crowd they know watches and they want to be fair.
The Bible warns in Prov.17:18: “A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge, and becomes surety for his friend.”
“Some of you have lost your Jobs. God’s going to give you a better job you just do what I’m going to ask you to do and take that step of faith, make a pledge of $2,000.” No one is out of reach from this conniving not even the unemployed!
“God spoke to me before I even arrived here on Sunday…I believe I heard from heaven and this is the result you know I heard from heaven (pointing to the stack of debt pledges) God spoke to my heart and he told me to tell you to make a pledge for $2,000 and I know the reaction to that people say I don’t have “I know you don’t that’s why I said “make a pledge, ”some of you have it ,if you do, send it in …”
There’s a lot to be said for pledges in the scriptures and none of it is favorable to what the Jubilee party is teaching.
Prov. 22:26-27: “Do not be one of those who shakes hands in a pledge, one of those who is surety for debts; If you have nothing with which to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?”
Now from the law itself,  Deut 24:10-13: “When you lend your brother anything, you shall not go into his house to get his pledge.
Exod. 22:26: “If you ever take your neighbor’s garment as a pledge, you shall return it to him before the sun goes down.”
Shambach asked for $2,000 and no less for the miracle of debt to be broken in the special jubilee year! Paul goes on to explain in 2 Cor.9:10: “Now he who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness.”
This is a quote from Isa.55:10 about God giving rain to the earth to bring forth fruit that he may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater. Paul uses this physical example for a promise of a future reward, not on earth but in heaven, for their acts of kindness. He uses a material example to illustrate a spiritual truth. Not a spiritual truth to illustrate a physical example.
I had thought this would have all gone away after the year was over, boy was I wrong. The Jubilee is suppose to end this September one year after it started. But not according to Benny Hinn. We haven’t begun to hear the end of this scam. It was so successful that now he’s changed the whole meaning. “Our Jubilee comes after theirs (the Jews). The Bible says first the natural then the spiritual.” (This is your day program Aug.31 1998)What twist of 1 Cor.15 that is speaking of the resurrection. Parsley does not stop here either but continues, now preaching a financial anointing and a great financial revival is coming. They will milk it all they can if possible.
The whole time this was being promoted it was because Israel was celebrating their 50th year in the land. Now we have Hinn saying there’s a Christian Jubilee on the 51st year. And he uses of all things the resurrection in 1 Cor.15  applying it to monetary and other physical blessings. Is there anything out of the reach of these new Gnostic interpreters?

The believer is not under the Law but under grace. In both Romans 6:14 and Galatians 5:18, Paul emphasizes that the believer is no longer under the Law of Moses. An example of the believer’s standing as a grace-giver is found in Acts 4:32-35, where the believers gave as they felt led to give with no regulations or specific percentages guiding them. We don’t give to receive back more. This is promoting coveting disguised as worship of God, its actually worship of Mammon. The message of prosperity does well in America. The newest findings are that even the heathen are enjoying the current prosperity, as we are in the best financial position in 50 years.
The procedure of Spirit-controlled giving or grace giving involves four steps, as clearly described by Paul (I Cor. 16:1-2). First, it should be systematic and not haphazard, taking place on the first day of every week, referring to the period from sundown Saturday to sundown Sunday. Second, the phrase, each one of you, indicates that grace giving should be individual and not corporate, a fact that certainly speaks against the concept of store-house tithing. (The emphasis on individual responsibility certainly does not rule out corporate giving
Spirit-controlled giving should be proportionate: as he may prosper. Again, it is not based upon the tithe or a blanket decision to give 10 percent. Sometimes, a believer may be able to give only five percent, while other times it may be 20, 50, 60, even 90 percent. If all of one’s needs are met, its possible for one to give 100 percent. Paul’s point is that grace giving should be proportionate to the grace given.
Being “debt free” is not a promise or an obligation of God found in Scripture. Paul’s admonition was to “owe no man anything but to love one another” (Rom. 13:8)
Luke 6:34-36 “And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back” All debts in this year were canceled debt and property were returned for free to its owner.
Prov. 8:17-19 “I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue than choice silver.”
We are homeless aliens looking forward to our permanent home but there are some who want to make us have our focus our home here on earth. If you have it now you may just be forfeiting it later. Look at the faith found in the saints recorded in Heb.11 none had it now nor did they have the best of both worlds.
What we find is sowing seed is confused with an offering that was burned. Offerings had salt they were to be the best of what one had. In the NT we present our bodies as a living sacrifice to the Lord. We offer our lives and Rom. 14:16 Therefore do not let your good be spoken of as evil; Despite the possibly good intentions of the TV evangelists, Jesus tells us we are the salt of the earth, but if the salt loses it flavor it will be trampled down. This is exactly what we see in TV evangelism, it has become a by word where people hiss at.
I wonder If TBN and LeSea are forgiving their debtors? Shambach is not asking God for mercy on those who trouble TBN but to be killed “And Paul (Crouch) really believe that TBN like you said, you’ve been carrying such a heavy load because of this mess that’s been going on, dragging you through the courts, and I believe that this is the year and I’ve been praying if they don’t release you from it, kill them Lord. I mean that’s what I’m saying. God knows how to do it.” Well that’s a Christian witness for you!
If TBN and LeSea were to follow their own application of the Jubilee they would see they are wrong. There was to be No sowing, reaping, (Lev. 25:11). The soil was to enjoy a rest, In other words their ministry (their soil) is not to be gathering from others nor encouraging them to sow in it. Jubilee year or not we should leave it alone and not sow in their soil.
Today everyone wants the microwave solution to a problem they blame on the devil. They take no responsibility in bad management for themselves.
The law says do this and I will do this. In Grace God says I’ve done this and will continue to do so without any response on your part. The fact is all this is under the law of Moses, which is clearly done away with. So they are bringing people out from grace and under law. So God does not interact according to grace but law, which means if one does not keep all of it they are cursed. This is a far cry from the TV evangelist leading people into the promised land.
Were all your debts canceled? Why not! Because we are not a theocracy, we are not Israel. These were promises to a nation under a law covenant. We are no longer under the law but grace.
Nowhere do we find a teaching or celebration of the Jubilee in the book of Acts or the epistles. Paul does explain the tabernacle; the writer of Hebrews gives the New Testament commentary on the book of Leviticus. Paul explains the fulfillment of the feast days in Christ in 1 Corinthians If there is any Jubilee to be found its spiritual application would be how Christ set us free from being slaves to sin to new creatures in Christ, there is no money involved. Rom.6:7-9 For he who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.” Our bodies will be redeemed by the sound of the trumpet blown in 1 Thess.4:16 where we will be changed from mortal to immortal corruptible to incorruptible. If there is any application this, it is where it would ultimately be found — set free from our sin. You can dress up a corpse, but it’s another thing to make it walk.
As Jacob Prasch so properly explains, The church is making the exact same mistake as the Jews in Jesus Triumphal entry! Kingdom now, faith prosperity and signs and wonders. In the first coming of Jesus they wanted him to rule and overthrow Rome (we want all the goodies now that he offers to us in the Millennium). Ps.118 vs.25: “Save now I pray O’ lord, O’ lord I pray send now prosperity. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” They had a prosperity theology, name and claim it, blab it and grab it .You don’t have to suffer your a kings kid, they have a cross less Christianity which is no Christianity at all. They have a signs and wonders gospel, they wanted Jesus to put on a show, Jesus said, “a wicked and adulterous generation seeks a sign. When Jesus healed people it usually was SHHH. Don’t tell anybody. Today it’s go tell everyone, It’s good advertising! And it is easy to tune in and watch the show.
It’s can be a rough road for Christians when their financial future is left to be interpreted by men who may or may not have good intentions, (probably the later). They certainly do not give the correct biblical counsel to set people free from their debt. This is no different than havingwpe1C.jpg (4540 bytes)deliverance for Christians that are suppose to be demon possessed. They go right out and make the same mistakes, its a band-aid solution to how one got in the mess their in the first place. Right biblical counsel is teaching one to be a good student over their monies, otherwise one is going on a roller coaster ride with no track course or steering. Be careful of those who spend hours telling people God will speak to their hearts about giving, or say they can’t out give God. If you watch long enough you’ll hear the pitch, it’s a certain amount you need to give. All that will probably happen is you’ll see you money walk away. So the next time you listen to a TV evangelist say open up your heart, listen long enough it usually means your wallet.

“A time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:6-8

For generations Christians have struggled to reconcile their faith with the terrible demands of war. The biblical perspective seems to be that war is sometimes in the will of God.

I realize that to say that war may sometimes be in the will of God is to jump into a firestorm of controversy. Such a view is not popular today. I ate lunch with several fellow pastors and heard one of them say emphatically that war is always a sin.

Let me say that I think my pastoral friend is partly right and partly wrong. War is terrible in all its aspects, and I would never want to be known as someone who is “for” war. I’m not even sure what a statement like that would mean. I don’t know any sane person who is for war.

I think my friend is right to this degree: Wars come about because of the sinfulness of the human race. Warfare comes from the fallen nature of man. Whenever two nations go to war, sin is never absent. There may be sins of pride and oppression, or there may be sins of brutality and naked aggression, but sin is always part of the equation.

I would go a step further and say that there is rarely a war so “pure” or “clean” that one side is totally right and the other side is totally wrong. Even where such a case exists, there will almost always be some wrong motives on both sides.

But is going to war always and in every case sinful? I think not. Just before the Persian Gulf conflict started, Billy Graham said, “There come times when we have to fight for peace. Unfortunately, that’s been true of the whole history of the human race.” That doesn’t make every war right, but it does mean that some wars are indeed justified in the eyes of God.

Better days are coming. In the last days God’s kingdom will finally be established on the earth and all the nations will be at peace. The law of the Lord will go forth from Jerusalem and the Lord Jesus Himself will settle the disputes that today end in war. So wise will be His rule that weapons of war will become obsolete. People will take their tanks and turn them into combines; their cruise missiles will become tractors; B-52 bombers will be melted down and transformed into solar-powered water purifiers. Bullets will become obsolete. All the gas masks will be thrown away. They won’t be needed in the kingdom Jesus will establish.

Best of all, the nations will not take up swords against one another. The old spiritual says it very well: “Gonna lay down my sword and shield, down by the riverside. Ain’t gonna study war no more.”

That’s how God intended it to be. Between now and then, nations will still go to war, but let us keep our eyes on the goal and let us work and pray for that day of lasting peace to come.

Prince of Peace, show me what it means to be a peacemaker in a world filled with war. Amen.

This has to be one of the most poisonous doctrines within the churches today, especially “charismatic” churches. I have seen people suddenly “pass out” after being shoved on the forehead by a minister and lay on the ground trembling and twitching, while the congregation praises God for the Holy Spirit “slaying” this person “in the spirit”.

I have also heard and read of more extreme cases where people being “slain in the spirit” have jerked and twitched to the point of where they hurt themselves and others (one man actually jerked so hard, he broke his neck and died); people have been slammed to the floor or have been thrown up to fifteen feet away, have barked and snapped like dogs, have laughed uncontrollably for hours (now called “holy laughter”), have been stuck to the floor unable to move, etc.

And all of these things are being praised as being works of the Holy Spirit! Really? Passing out in church? Laughing uncontrollably? Jerking and twitching? Barking and snapping like dogs? Is this really the power of the Holy Spirit working within someone? The answer to that question is emphatically NODemonic manifestations? YES!

There is nothing anywhere in Scripture to support the doctrine of being “slain in the spirit”! First of all, being “slain” is to be killed, and our spirits are eternal and therefore cannot be “slain”, so therefore the very title of this phenomenon is wrong.

Jesus never knocked anyone unconscious when He touched or healed them. The disciples were fully conscious when they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and they ran into the streets rejoicing and praising God in other languages. There is no recording of fainting, twitching, snapping, barking or anything else of the sort in Scripture where God or the Holy Spirit were involved.

JOHN 3:34
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure [unto him].

Did Jesus cause violent reactions in people when He healed them? The Scripture above reports that Jesus had the Holy Spirit given to Him without measure! Did He pass out, twitch uncontrollably, or bark like a dog? If He did, He would have been declared to be demon-possessed and would have been hauled away to the loony bin, and His message and work here would have been lost.

But there are at least two documented cases of demon activity causing similar manifestations to those “slain in the spirit.”.

LUKE 4:31-37
31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath days.
32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,
34 Saying, Let [us] alone; what have we to do with thee, [thou] Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
36 And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word [is] this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.
37 And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about.

MARK 9:14-27
14 And when he came to [his] disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to [him] saluted him.
16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things [are] possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, [Thou] dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And [the spirit] cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

LUKE 9:38-42
38 And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child.
39 And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him.
40 And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.
41 And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.
42 And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare [him]. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

Note some similarities here? The man in the synagogue was thrown to the ground by the demon before it came out. The demonic spirit in the boy “tears at him” and “bruises him”, causes him to gnash (snap) his teeth, and throws him about, trying to destroy him. The both behaviors are marked with violence caused by these demon spirits, the same kind of violence that some Christians now claim is the power of the Holy Spirit!

It is noteworthy here also, that the boy described above was possessed by a deaf and dumb spirit. There have been reported cases of being “slain in the spirit” where people were unable to speak for hours at a time.

Note that the demonic spirit tore the child so badly before he came out that he required healing by Jesus! And note especially in Mark 9:25 that Jesus commanded that the spirit not re-enter the child. Those of you involved in deliverance ministries, please take careful note of this.

These behaviors during the time that people are “slain in the spirit” are definitely not from God! They are the work of demonic spirits, and yet the churches praise God for His work in the lives of these poor deluded people. Satan must be holding his sides laughing at our gullibility.

The work of the Spirit is never violent. As the apostle Paul says;

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Notice the key words in these two verses. Meekness, gentleness, peace, temperance (self-control). No violence of the types reported in the “slain in the spirit” phenomenon in the lives of believers is caused by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Himself said;

MATTHEW 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.

Being knocked unconscious or being thrown about is a common occurrence in Occult rituals and demon possession. So why do we allow it within the church, if there is no Scriptural instruction concerning it? Because members are not vigilant in discerning errors in doctrine within the church! I will be so bold as to say that we are so anxious to see some display of God’s power within the church that we will accept anything that looks legitimateeven if there is no Scriptural basis for it

I have noted with great interest as have others, that those who are “slain in the Spirit”invariably fall backwards, usually because they are pushed or shoved on the forehead by the person doing the “slaying”. And yet Scripture records that those who fall down in worship, fall forward on their faces in reverence to the Lord. Note the following Scriptural references;

Abram (later called Abraham), called the Friend of God, fell on his face whenever God spoke to him directly.

3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,

17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall [a child] be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

Joseph’s brothers fell on faces before him, not knowing he was their brother, giving him the reverence due his office;
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we [be] thy servants.

Balaam fell on his face before angel sent to destroy him;

31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.

Joshua fell on face & worshipped before the Lord who appeared to him just before the battle of Jericho;

14 And he said, Nay; but [as] captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

Ezekiel, considered one of the greatest prophets of the Old Testament, fell down and worshiped on his face before the Lord;

EZEKIEL 1:26 – 2:2
26 And above the firmament that [was] over their heads [was] the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne [was] the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.
27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so [was] the appearance of the brightness round about. This [was] the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw [it], I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

Ezekiel 2:1-2
1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.
2 And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.

23 Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of Chebar: and I fell on my face.

When on the mount where Jesus was transfigured, Peter, James and John fell on their faces infear at His glory and at the voice of the Father when He spoke to them;

MATTHEW 17:1-8
1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

Jesus Himself, in the Garden of Gethsamene, fell on His face before His Father giving Him reverence;

39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou [wilt].

A leper, hoping against hope to be healed of his disease, worshipped Jesus by falling on his face in reverence;

LUKE 5:12
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on [his] face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

One of ten lepers healed by Jesus returned, loudly praising God, and worshiping Jesus;

LUKE 17:16
16 And fell down on [his] face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

Paul, in speaking of the gifts of the Spirit mentions that if the whole church prophesy concerning an unbeliever;

23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in [those that are] unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?
24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or [one] unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:
25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on [his] face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

Now the OTHER side of the coin. Scripture records that falling backward is a sign of unbelief, sin and fear, not reverence!
The Lord speaking of rebellious Israel, stating that they were weary of following the Law spoke through Isaiah, saying;

ISAIAH 28:13
13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

When the soldiers came to arrest Jesus in the Garden of Gethsamene, Jesus asked them whom they sought. They replied, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

JOHN 18:6
6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground.

As Scripture reports, falling forward is a sign of worship and reverence, whereas falling backward is just the opposite!

Invariably, with the “slaying in the spirit” phenomenon, there is no testing of the spirit(s) involved to see if they are from God. There are documented cases of demon infestation knocking a person unconscious, but nowhere is it recorded in Scripture that the Holy Spirit does such a thing.

If you cannot prove or support a doctrine or practice with solid Scripture, in context, you have no right teaching it. Jesus condemned the Pharisees for this very thing, saying,

MATTHEW 15:7-9
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias (Isaiah) prophesy of you, saying,
8 This people draweth nigh to me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. 9 But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

The apostle Paul says,

21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

And if one were to get strictly legal about this, there are only two cases in Scripture of someone being actually “slain by the Spirit” and that was Ananias and Sapphira, who died at the feet of Peter through the exercise of the power of the Holy Spirit as a lesson to others about deceit.

ACTS 5:1-11
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 And kept back [part] of the price, his wife also being privy [to it], and brought a certain part, and laid [it] at the apostles’ feet.
3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back [part] of the price of the land?
4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried [him] out, and buried [him].
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
8 And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
9 Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband [are] at the door, and shall carry thee out.
10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying [her] forth, buried [her] by her husband.
11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Note, Peter never touched them. They merely fell down and were NOT violently thrown about, or anything else.

The Lord gave me a dream some years ago. I was standing in a beautiful green field, watching a herd of fat, white sheep feeding. About twenty feet away from me crouched a huge tiger, who had killed and devoured at least one sheep already, for he had blood and wool around his mouth, and there was blood and bits of wool on the ground in front of him. He was looking at the other sheep, and snarling, and I could tell he was looking for his next victim. Yet the sheep continued to graze, seemingly totally unconcerned that this tiger was in their midst.

Then the tiger saw me. He raced over and began to spring up and attack. I looked at him and commanded, “In the name of Jesus Christ, get down!” He immediately crouched at my feet, snarling and glaring at me with eyes that literally glowed yellow with hatred. He wanted to tear me apart, but could not.

I awoke after that, and wrote it off as being a weird dream. But it kept nagging at me throughout the day, so I asked the Lord if He was trying to tell me something. He then told me that the sheep were the churches, and the tiger was Satan. Satan was destroying the churches one by one, and not only were the churches unaware of this, but they were totally unconcerned that it was happening. The destruction was of a spiritual nature, rather than physical.

I hadn’t thought about the dream in years, but recently when I was worshiping at church, I suddenly saw this tiger again, in my mind. I guess one could call it a vision. He was pacing at a distance in the parking lot, glaring at the church and snarling in rage and frustration, because the worship and the Spirit of the Lord was so strong that he couldn’t come anywhere near it.

Pastors of churches are set up by the Lord to feed and guard His flock. Yet many are falling under the condemnation of Isaiah in which the Lord says,

16 For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.

God speaking through Hosea, laments;
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.

False doctrines such as “slaying in the spirit” which have no foundation in Scripture are being taught in the church fulfilling Paul’s prophecy of,

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

And he sets an even harder line when he tells the Galatians,

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Note that Paul was so serious about this issue, that he included angels, himself and his companions under the curse! Note also, that curse is still active today. Pastors and elders, please take careful note of this!

The apostle Peter also warns,

2 PETER 2:1-2
1 But there were false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

God gave us His inspired Word to instruct us as to what is required of us, and to help us discern errors that Satan tries to introduce among us. That is why it is so important that we study and understand the Scriptures, and carefully follow what they say. For if God demanded exact, careful attention to detail concerning worship and ordinances in the old Law, is He any less diligent that we follow the same exacting detail to the commandments in the New Testament today?

God considers His Word to be so important that David says,

PSALMS 138:2
2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for you have magnified your word above all your name.

God considers His Word to be so importantthat He has elevated it above His own name!

This also brings up another point aside from the issue at hand, but one that I feel should be included here.

I have been to churches where as the pastor was preaching, people would jump up and “speak in tongues” or some other such thing. But as God has elevated His word above His name, He would never, ever, interrupt the preaching of the Word with a display of a spiritual gift!People that do this are following either their own desire for attention, or are attempting to display “gifts” that they do not have! And if you interrupt the preaching of God’s word, will He not have an accounting of you for that? Especially if by your interruption you might be blocking a message that someone desperately needs to hear? (I’ll deal more with this issue in the study on the Gifts of the Spirit)

If you are a pastor of the church, it is your responsibility before God to teach your flock sound doctrine, as you will be held responsible by the Lord for what you teach. James says;

1 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgement.

In other words, those called to teach and preach the Word of God, will fall under a harsher judgement, as we are not only required to thoroughly know and understand what we teach and will be judged for our teachings, but we need to live as examples of that teaching. And while the judgement may be harder, the rewards for diligence as a teacher or preacher will be great also!

Paul warned the leaders of the churches of Miletus and Ephesus to;

ACTS 20:28-30
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

Pastors, elders, and teachers, God has given you an awesome responsibility, namely to shepherd His people. You are required to feed them, and shield them from false doctrines by providing sound teaching from the Word, much as a shepherd leads the sheep to pasture for feeding, and protects them from attacks from wolves.

Note some of the requirements of a bishop (Greek episkopos, meaning a general overseer, or superintendent, not an established office of that title like some churches have).

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

11 Even so [must their] wives [be] grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

Leaders should be married, gifted with the ability to teach, vigilant to watch over the flock, and sober so they can readily discern attacks by Satan and his servants against the church.

Paul further reiterates these rules to Titus, whom he had ordained to oversee the churches in Crete that had been formed, telling him;

Titus 1:5-11
5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
10 For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

TITUS 2:1-8
1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine:
2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
3 The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 [To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine [shewing] uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,
8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Church leaders are required to exhort good doctrine, expose false teachings, and counter those who teach falsehoods, so that the enemy cannot gain a foothold in the church. And yet it seems that few leaders follow these teachings, fearing to offend those in their congregations who might disagree with them. The Gospel being preached today is, “Let’s not offend each other, but just love each other in the Lord.”
This may sound good on the surface, but if you REALLY love someone, you will teach them the truth, even if it hurtsor offends them. Do you think Jesus will follow the “Let’s just love each other” concept at the judgement? What will you say to these people when they receive the sentence of Hell, and ask you why you didn’t tell them the truth?

God told the prophet Ezekiel;

Ezekiel 3:17-21
17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked [man] shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
20 Again, When a righteous [man] doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous [man], that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.

Ezekiel 33:1-9
Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman:
3 If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;
4 Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head.
5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul.
6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take [any] person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.
7 So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.
8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked [man], thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked [man] shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

Note that God considered warning the wicked so important that He spoke twice to Ezekiel concerning it! How much blood will be on our hands because we allow false teachings within the church to lead people to Hell because we don’t want to offend them?

The dream I mentioned previously about the tiger is God’s graphic example of what is happening to the churches today. They are being spiritually devoured, and they either are unaware or don’t care that spiritual destruction is imminent.

And sadly, these people will be deceived and brought under the sway of the Antichrist, for if they receive false doctrines now, how hard will it be to deceive them when the doctrines are accompanied by false signs and wonders? As Paul warns;

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12
7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth [will let], until he be taken out of the way.
8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9 [Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Peter, warning the Jew and Gentile believers says;

2 PETER 2:1-2
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

Corrupt doctrines are being brought into the church by people distorting and twisting the Gospel to the point of where the Gospel itself is being rejected, and Christians are being held in contempt and derision by the world. Satanists I have spoken with have told me that members of their order are ministers of churches, and considering some of the unscriptural doctrines I hear being preached from the pulpits of some churches I have been to, I believe it. In fact, one church I attended had a demon-possessed pastor preaching in it, and his congregation didn’t know it.

Fair warning: When you allow a minister, elder or other church member to lay hands on you, you are not only submitting to the person, but to the spirit within the person! And if that spirit is a demon, you are submitting to the demon as you would to the Lord! This gives the demon legal right to have access to you.

Paul, knowing what was to come gave this last ministerial charge to young Timothy, and through him, to us;

1 I charge [thee] therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away [their] ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

You who are pastors or church leaders have an awesome responsibility as a shepherd of your flock, and the spiritual welfare of your congregation is in your hands. And if you allow errors in doctrine or teaching to enter your church, God will hold you responsible for it, and for the blood of those whom you teach. And if you cannot square something with God’s Word, in context, I would be wary of teaching it. We rather need to be like the Jews of Berea, who listened to the preaching of Paul, but as Scripture records;

ACTS 17:12
12 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the Scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

They indeed listened to Paul with open minds, but examined the Scriptures daily to verify what he preached before they accepted it! How many church leaders and members do that today? Sadly enough, from what I have seen in churches I have attended, not too many. Far too many have become like the Jews that Paul bewails in Romans, when he says;

2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

In other words, they wanted to serve God, and were enthusiastic to do so, but were in ignorance of the Scriptures. And just like we say today, ignorance is no excuse especially when we have the Word readily available to us today.

Be warned! Jesus said that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the only sin that will not be forgiven. Just as the Pharisees thought that Jesus cast out demons by the power of Satan, even so calling demonic activity the work of the Holy Spirit blasphemes the Holy Spirit. Paul was apparently aware of this while in Thyatira, in Asia;

Acts 16:16-18
16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

On the surface, this seems odd that Paul would cast out the spirit of divination which was proclaiming that he and his companions were preachers of the Gospel. But if you consider the matter, the people of Thyatira knew this young woman was a fortuneteller, and Paul didn’t want the people thinking she was speaking through the power of the Holy Spirit, because as Paul performed miracles, both he and the woman would be held in equal esteem, as people would assume that both powers came from the same source. And people would then attribute the power of the Holy Spirit to demons, thereby blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Himself warned the Pharisees;

MATTHEW 12:22-32
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard [it], they said, This [fellow] doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast [them] out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy [against] the [Holy] Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the [world] to come.

One of the biggest errors of the “slain in the spirit” doctrine is that it glorifies the Holy Spirit more than Jesus. Yet Jesus Himself said,

John 16:13-15
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.

Note that Jesus said that the Spirit will glorify Him (Jesus). The Holy Spirit does not glorify Himself. And yet many charismatic churches concentrate on the gifts of the Spirit and give more glory to the Holy Spirit, than they do to the One who sent Him!

Another error is the very reactions of the people who are “slain”. If an unbeliever walked into a church where this was going on, he would probably flee in terror. People passing out, twitching, snapping, barking, etc. He would think he’d stumbled into an insane asylum! And yet what does Scripture say?

1 Corinthians 14:33
33 For God is not [the author] of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

1 Corinthians 14:40
40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

2 Timothy 1:7
7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

In virtually all cases of people being “slain in the spirit” that I have seen, there was no order, but bedlam. Ministers shoving people on the forehead or blowing on people while demanding that God provide more of His Spirit by shouting “More! More!”, people falling down, some twitching, others speaking in tongues, etc. Total confusion and chaos in virtually every case. And the use of tongues in each case is in clear violation of the order that Paul says they are to be used in I Corinthians 14. (For further information on this subject, please see the study on the Gifts of the Spirit.)

In summary, the doctrine of being “slain in the spirit” has absolutely no foundation in Scripture, but does have foundation in the Occult. The Scriptures also record that demons will react with violence within a person, whereas the Holy Spirit does not.

Scripture records that demon spirits will cause activity similar to that described in some of the “slain in the spirit” sessions, such as snapping of teeth, violent behavior, and slamming people to the ground. No doubt demons also cause people to bark like dogs, become stuck to the floor and other weird behaviors.

Those of you who continue in this blasphemous practice are in danger of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, for you are calling these demonic works the work of the Holy Spirit even though Scripture clearly shows that this is not the case.

Scripture warns us that we are to test the spirits, because not every spiritual manifestation is from God. John says;

I JOHN 4:1-4
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
It has been my experience that the person you question can say that Jesus is come in the flesh, but if you ask the spirit withinthe person, if the spirit is a demon, you will get a quite different answer, if they answer you at all.

The very title of being “slain in the spirit” is a clue to the falseness of this doctrine. Our spirits are eternal; where we spend eternity depends on acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, accepting His sacrifice on the cross for our sins, believing that God raised Him from the dead, and being diligent to follow His commandments. And just as those found worthy to enter the kingdom of God are eternal beings, those who are sentenced to Hell will be tormented for eternity.

All doctrine must be measured against God’s Word and doctrines that cannot be supported by God’s Word, in context, must be rejected!

I have proven from Scripture that the “slain in the spirit” doctrine cannot be supported by Scripture, and in fact goes against Scripture. Those of you who read this, are now responsible for this information. If you continue to support this doctrine, then I will be free of your blood, for I have done as the Lord has commanded me, and have shown you the truth concerning this blasphemous doctrine.

And if you choose to reject what I have written here without solid Scriptural proof that I am wrong, then you have rejected the One who inspired the very Scriptures I have used for my proof. Remember, Jesus said;

JOHN 12:46-48
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

May the Lord Jesus Christ open your eyes and grant you the discernment needed to recognize the truth of what I have written here.

The phenomenon of ‘falling down backward’ is one which has gained unprecedented popularity in today’s churches. However, it is a phenomenon which has absolutely no biblical standing whatsoever. In fact, it would indeed be laughable if it weren’t so deadly serious an issue for the Church. There are many Christians who are curious about these odd occurrences and have asked if there is any biblical validation for these events. Subsequently, I am obliged to give a response, and a warning.
This phenomenon is usually declared to be the product of the act of ‘laying on of hands,’ which is the belief that a person receives the Holy Spirit of anointing when this is done. The subsequent falling down backward is defined as the physical response to the strong power of the Holy Spirit coming upon these people.
These curious events are known by many different names, including, ‘falling down backwards, falling out, drunk in the Spirit, sleep in the Spirit, going down, slain in the Spirit, overcome by the Spirit, resting in the Spirit, and the sleep blessing..’ As best we can tell, Maria Beulah Woodworth-Etter, a woman who preached in the holiness movement of the 1880’s, started this practice by falling out in her popular services of the time. She would often go into a trance-like state and fall down during her performances. She died in 1924, but her legacy of falling down backward in Church services has lived on. In modern times, it was brought back to great popularity by people in great numbers falling down in a small church in Toronto Canada. From this resurgence, many have also labled this, ‘The Toronto Blessing,’ where it is mixed with what is termed holy laughter.
Many Charismatics claim that apart from the anointing, falling down backward is also a phenomenon which brings both physical and emotional healing. They believe that it is a blessing of the spiritual gifts that God gives. However, the most agreed upon explanation or purpose for this act is that it is that of the anointing of the Spirit for the service to God. Much like Christ was anointed for the service of God when the Spirit descended like a dove. But all of these explanations are in stark contrast to all of the actual Biblical references to falling down backward. These are ‘always’ (without exception) seen in the context of God’s judgment upon man, and are ‘never’ seen as any type of blessing, anointing, or healing. So if falling down backward is not anywhere seen in scripture as good or a blessed thing, then the question is, why are some professed Christians emulating this?
In order for faithful Christians to honestly establish if there is any real support in the scriptures for these experiences, we must be willing to examine the passages which have been offered up by these people as evidence that it is a Biblical practice. Therefore, in the first part of this article, we will examine the scriptures which actually speak about people who fall backward. And in the second part, we will address some of the scriptures which Charismatics use in an attempt to support their belief. If falling down backward is really a biblical practice, then we should clearly see it illustrated in the Bible. And if it is not a Biblical practice, then what we see in scripture should illustrate that this falling is unchristian, and unprecedented. If we are willing to surrender to the authority of the Word, we can clearly tell what is not the product of the Spirit of truth, and what is the working of a seducing spirit of deception. Because it’s not as if God has not warned us false practices were coming upon the Church.
Passages Illustrating Falling Down Backwards
When we search through the scriptures we are struck by the realization that the witness of canon is that any and all ‘falling down backward’ is invariably in the context of God’s Judgments upon man. It is never in the context of believers receiving the Holy Spirit, or of any blessing or benefit. We should not lose sight of the ‘fact’ that all other scriptures which those who profess belief in this phenomenon offer, do not actually speak of any ‘falling down backward.’ And most speak of no falling down at all. The first reference we will look at is in Genesis:
Genesis 49:16-17
  • “Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.
  • Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward“.
Dan is your classic example of a man under Judgment of God who goes forth an adversary, that others may fall backward under that same judgment. The tribe or family of Dan was infamous for it’s fall to idolatry (Judges 18:30-31), and their turning away from God to serve false gospels and false gods. In Genesis, Dan is equated with the serpent who bites at the heels of horses that the horsemen might ‘fall backward.’ i.e., it is a spiritual picture signifying his bite is to make the strong people to fall into judgment. In point of fact, the name Dan itself is the Hebrew word [dawn], meaning ‘judge.’ Indeed, Rachel herself declared that she named him Dan because God had judged her. Dan being ‘the serpent’ biting at the heels that one falls down backward, is God inspired spiritual truths concerning the evil spirit and God’s judgment. From the beginning in the garden of Eden, in Genesis chapter 3 we see this symbolism of that Spirit Satan, as the serpent:
Genesis 3:15
  • “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
Dan is equated with this serpent, Satan. He lies by the way attempting to bite the heel of the strong (horsemen are a symbol of strength) people that they fall backward, coming under judgment of God. Dan is a vessel of judgment. This tribe brought idolatry and false gospel to Israel so that it is cut off and not even mentioned in the census of revelation chapter 7, of the 12,000 sealed of “all” the tribes of Israel. By Dan’s wickedness, he is used to Judge Israel. Much like God prophesies that he will send deceivers (2nd Thessalonians 2:9-12) with lying signs and wonders to deceive the unfaithful of the Church who will not receive the love of truth. It is illustrating that God uses false teachers to judge His Church. Likewise,
Genesis 49:16
  • “Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.
  • Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.”
This falling backward of those whom Dan accosts, signifies they are come under Judgment. In no way does this scripture showing ‘falling backward’ signify the anointing of the spirit, or a blessing of God. On the contrary, it signifies God’s judgment, and an evil upon man.
1st Samuel 4:18
  • “And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.”
Likewise, this falling backward is in the context of the judgment that God sent upon the people of Israel for their rebellion. There was a great slaughter of Israel by the Philistines, and the ark of the Covenant, the symbol of God’s promise to Israel, was taken by the heathen. God had foretold of His judgment upon Israel, and now he was bringing it to pass. That any of the examples of falling backward in scripture can be construed or used as proof that it illustrates a blessing, or an anointing, is beyond all rational thought. This man fell backward, broke his neck, and died ‘because’ the Ark of Israel was taken in Judgment. In no instances of scripture is falling down backward ever seen as anything but judgment. The Charismatic church should testify to the passages which ‘actually’ speak of this falling backward.
Isaiah 28:13
  • “But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.”
The Lord is speaking here of rebellious Israel, that they would not hear His Word of truth, and He declares that they would be broken, caught in their own snare or web, to be trapped. And He uses the terminology of His judgment as them, ‘falling backward.’ We see that all roads lead to the same conclusion. And the conclusion is that the Biblical references of ‘falling backward’ do not ever signify the anointing of the Spirit of God, but signifies the wrath of God in his judgment upon rebellious man.
Likewise, when Judas betrayed Christ and the soldiers came to arrest Him in the Garden of Gethsamene, Jesus asked them who it was they sought, and their reply was, Jesus of Nazareth:
John 18:6
  • “As soon then as he had said unto them, I Am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
Note that the word ‘he’ is not actually in the original manuscript, it was placed there by translators in an attempt to make the sentence flow smoothly. Jesus literally says, I AM, announcing He was the Great I AM (Exodus 3:13-14), the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. As soon as Christ said I AM, these wicked men who would come to accuse God, fell backward to the ground, signifying their own judgment. They had come to arrest righteous God for violation of the law, and God (not willing to stop His arrest, but to show forth His Authority), has them all ‘fall backward’ at the sound of His Glorious Name, ‘I AM!’ This isn’t the picture the Charismatics want to paint of those who fall down backward, but it is the picture which God paints. No one ‘caught’ these men who fell backward, no one saw or alleged any anointing of them by the Spirit, and no one claimed that this was God’s blessings upon these men. Because falling backward is a ‘sign’ of God’s Judgment in scripture, not His Blessing. And in an ironic twist, this verse of John 18:6 is one which many attempt to use to support their claims of Biblical precedence for their belief in falling backward. On the contrary, it illustrates just the opposite. That it signifies those who come under Judgment of the Great I AM, and not those who are blessed of God.
These are the passages which speak of falling backward in scripture, and not one of them give one shred of support to such doctrines as Christians being slain in the spirit or Holy laughter. It supports the truth that this event signifies God’s judgment. If we are going to go by the scriptural record of what men falling down backwards entails, then we have clear validation that it involves those under the Judgment of God. It is not something which any Christian would ever want to be associated with.
Passages purported to support Falling Down Backwards
Advocates of this practice allege that there indeed is Scriptural warrant, but does this claim hold up under close biblical examination? There are no explicit biblical references, but there are some passages which Charismatics say ‘imply’ the act of falling down backward or being slain in the spirit. The passages which they most often submit as supporting their beliefs are Genesis 15:12 and 17:3, Numbers 22:30 and 24:4, Joshua 5:14, Ezekiel 1:28, Matthew 17:5-6, Revelation 7:11 and 11:16, and Acts 9:3-4. Let’s look at each of these scriptures in their proper context, and without prejudice.
Genesis 15:12
  • “And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.”
This scripture says a deep sleep fell upon Abraham, it doesn’t say a word about being slain in the spirit, falling backward, fainting, or passing out. Nor does this biblical reference bear any resemblance whatsoever to what goes on in the Churches today. This passage fails miserably as a proof text for the teaching that Christians fall down backward as a sign of anointing. At best it says when darkness came, he fell asleep. It doesn’t say that Abram fell, it says a deep sleep fell upon him. A totally different context.
Numbers 22:27
  • “And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.”

This Hebrew word translated fell is [rabats], which means to crouch or to lie down. In no instance does it mean an involuntary falling backward. To use this passage as support for such events is taking liberties above and beyond what can be ‘honestly’ justified. The ass simply crouched down or lay down under Balaam because of what he saw. He did not fall backward, nor is there anything here that would allow this episode to be used to support such actions in the Church today. It’s ridiculous to say this proves we can fall down backward in the Churches.

Genesis 17:3
  • “And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,”

Joshua 5:14

  • “And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?”

Ezekiel 1:28

  • “As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.”
These are people going down to the ground in reverence for God, a ‘voluntary’ act of obeisance, respect, and submission, not the spirit knocking them down or putting them to sleep. Obviously these people have no concept of the application of the Hebrew word ‘fell’ [naphal] in the sense of going down. Nevertheless, these also do not show an involuntary falling either backward or forward. We plainly see all throughout scripture that the prophets of God, acknowledging the Glory, Vision, and Magnificence of God’s presence, would fall (that is to say, drop or go down) with their face to the ground as a sign of reverence and obeisance. None of these Holy men were stupefied, fainting, passing out or confused, nor were they prodded by other Prophets, nor did they fall backward as is the practice of Charismatics. Scripture tells us that they fell on their faces, which is a synonym for going down to their knees to kneel and bow in fear and reverence to God. None of these scriptures support the phenomenon of falling down backward. They are used by the proponents of these doctrines unjustifiably. It is simply another classic example of people ‘reading one’s own views into the scripture,’ rather than actually reading these scripture.
Numbers 24:4
  • “He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:”
This passage doesn’t speak of being slain in the spirit, doesn’t show the act of falling down backward, or falling at all. And again, it doesn’t bear any resemblance to what is today’s Church phenomenon. It merely speaks of a man receiving a vision of God, and going into a trance. The very same application used if we were to say, ‘the soldier fell into formation.’ It is not falling ‘as in’ losing balance and falling down, but he fell in the causative sense of having gone into the formation. Likewise, the application of the word here is that this prophet has gone into a trance, not physically fell down. There are many different applications of the word fall, as we saw it used in the sense that prophets (voluntarily) fall (go down) with their faces bowed in worship. These have nothing whatsoever to do with a Preacher touching a christian on the forehead, and him falling backward to the ground in an uncontrollable fashion. More examples of this voluntary going down is illustrated in New Testament passages such as Matthew and Luke:
Matthew 17:5-6
  • “While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
  • And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.”
Luke 17:16
  • “And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.”
Again, just what saw in the Old Testament passages. The Apostles of God fell to their face voluntarily, in fear, or reverence and obeisance to the presence of God.
Revelation 7:11
  • “And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,”
Revelation 11:16
  • “And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,”
To suggest that these verses are picturing falling down backward or being slain in the Spirit would be laughable if it wasn’t so serious. What this actually does is support just the opposite. Namely, this falling on the face is a voluntary act, and in reverence and to worship God. It is not the anointing of the Spirit, and it is not falling down backwards.
Acts 9:3-4
  • “And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
  • And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”
Even in our day (in war for example), when a man comes face to face with his opponent who has the power to kill him, he goes down to the ground or to his knees in submission and fear. We saw this in the Gulf war. How much more Saul standing in the presence of the Light of God from Heaven? But it has nothing to do with being slain in the spirit phenomenon. Man is in fear when in the presence of the Almighty God, and he falls to the earth in terror at the voice of God. We have scripture after scripture in the Old Testament Proving just that, and I’m sure we all know them. Man falling to the ground in fear has nothing to do with being drunk in the Spirit, but with his knowledge of his frailty before a great power, or that he is in the presence of the Almighty God, the Great ‘I AM!’
And so considering all these scriptures which the Charismatics use in the attempt to support their actions, we can only humbly conclude that not one single passage supports this unbiblical phenomenon. It is a case of men grasping at straws in order to rationalize their unGodly actions. Moreover, in none of these verses, was there ever anyone actually falling down backward because of things that happened during a worship service or a Church gathering. In fact, there was no falling down period, there was a voluntary falling to their face in reverence or fear. This is very significant. It is the same as if we were to say, “Bill saw the vision, and fell to his knees in prayer.” For someone to take from this statement that not only did Bill fall down backward, but that this also now gives us warrant to do this in the Churches, is nothing short of ludicrous. These men did not lose control of their senses. They did not fall down. They were not twitching and jerking uncontrollably. There is no warrant in any of these verses for the practice that we see in the Churches today.

In this study we have shown that there is no real scriptural support for the falling down backward experience. The precedence in scripture is that such experiences signify God’s judgment, and this seems to me in perfect harmony with the Churches which practice this. They are false Churches under judgment. No ‘Bible believing’ Christian should want to have anything to do with this plague of falling down backwards. While Charismatics claim that they are following the Bible, this is an untenable declaration, as the witness of Holy Canon is void of any accounts, testimonies, experiences or doctrines like the ones they are attributing to God. These are very serious offenses, and are not non-essentials which we can just wink at.
Search as we may, we will not ever find anything in scripture where Christians were lined up, catchers stationed, and The Apostles or Christ tapped them on the forehead and watched them ‘fall down backward.’ The idea is foreign to scripture. We’re not going to find it there because it is a ridiculously unbiblical practice. When the Holy Spirit came upon Jesus, anointing Him for His ministry (by the baptism of John), Jesus did not fall down backward. No one that Jesus or the Apostles ever touched or laid hands on fell down backward. The truth is, this is a doctrine pulled from the dark inner minds of the imaginations of men, not from the pages of Holy canon. It does not draw from Scripture. The claim of a Scriptural foundation for it does not hold up under the light of God’s Word. Both the historical and the modern ‘slain in the spirit’ services are more from pagan themes and the occult, than from anything in scripture. And since these experiences are obviously not by the Holy Spirit of God, we can only conclude that it is by the spirit of disobedience. Another substitute (anti) spirit, masquerading as the Spirit of God. A spirit of lust for the fleshly and temporal experience. A spirit of deception, wherein Satan’s lie is made to appear as God’s truth. The spirit of Dan, a serpent nipping at the heels of horsemen that the rider may fall backward and be trapped or caught in a web. A spirit of Judgment, where the wrath of God abides upon it. For no false gospel shall be a Saving gospel, nor false spirit a Saving spirit, and no sign of Judgment a sign of Blessing. Christ is not in the business of mocking Himself. These are two different gospels, and two different spirits.
In conclusion, we can see that the popularity of this phenomenon is just another example of a ‘spiritual’ falling backward. A falling away or apostasy which is devastating the Churches in our day. It is professed Christians departing from the faith, and falling away from God. We are in a time where there is little reliance upon the Authority of the Word of God, as men change these laws to suit their own agenda and beliefs. God has always used falling as a ‘sign’ that His people are coming under judgment.
1st Timothy 4:1
  • “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;”
People of the Church giving heed to seducing spirits, not the Spirit of Christ, and because of this they shall be Judged. As the Bible clearly indicated, falling backward is a ‘sign’ of Judgment. The product of a seducing spirit, not the anointing Spirit.
To be sure, when true believers fall, it isn’t a involuntary fall, as the Charismatics do, but rather a fall or quick decent to our knees, faces bowed to the earth in humble prayer and worship of God. No preacher pushed us, we fell to our knees voluntarily. As did Jesus Himself, our precious example (in the Garden of Gethsamene). He fell on His face before His Father giving Him reverence. He did not actually ‘fall down,’ as Charismatics attempt to use the word, rather, He voluntarily dropped or went down with his face to the earth. To fall is by implication, to go down. It doesn’t mean literally falling as these suppose, and as was so clearly illustrated in that garden:
Matthew 26:39
  • “And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.”
Jesus, as all the Prophets and believers, fell forward in prayer, not backward. And they fell or dropped down in reverence. Falling backward is shown by God as Judgment, not anointing, healing, or blessing. So let us all in subjection pray that many will begin to learn the difference between falling backward, and falling on our faces to worship our God.
And may the Lord who is Gracious above all, give us the wisdom to ‘Stand’ and to discern His truths in these days of the rampant degradation of the Church.
1st Thessalonians 5:21
  • Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
